    the 318 does it agian

Today while i was one of a few drives to get the coolant circualted (on a really nice run of twistie roads), there was a car that was going slow and let me pass then a sport bike passed me that had 2 people on it fully decked out with the suits and crazy helmets. They were going like a bat out of hell and i down shifted to 3rd and caught up to them (after they had let off). During the turns i seemed to be able to keep up quite well. it really surprized me. I know that in the hands of a pro rider they could have lost me, but several times the guy looked back like he was puzzled that i was still riding his ass. This happend with my last 318 and it really makes me feel good when things like this happen. Makes me happy to be driving a 318 ;)

Most cars with a decent motor and suspension will be able to keep up with a motorcycle in the corners quite well. Since the bike has 2 skinny little tires, and the car has 4 nice fat ones, the car gets worlds more grip. It's always fun when you get your car to do just what you want it to.

That and the ball factor must be greater to go all out in curves on a motorcycle. at least if you were to loose it you would have plenty of steel to protect you and lessen the impact, the motorcylce driver knows it would be his last ride!

        LOL

I do like going against other sports cars though. a new Celica came up on me when i had the 318i with a four banger. i was just cruising on a curvy road. when i saw him we started balls out. i let him go around in a straight. the newer four banger had about 100 hp on my lil m10.

but I kept having to let off in the curves becasue his car could not do what the BMW would

You know I drove a e46 325 coupe with a five speed the other day. it would kill the e30 318i. not only did it have plenty of power it hugged the road like a champ. wonder what an m3 will be like?

Fun stuff. I had the most awsome experience in Brazil going to the beach. My father rented a Fiat Palio. 1.0 liter engine, 145/80 tires and a suspension that calling it 4x4 would be an understatement.... On the way there is a downhill which is about 8km long.... 5 miles long I'd guess where we go down 800ft. This jackass in a VW Golf turbo ( the 1.8T ) is leading the way and I stayed with him the whole way. 2nd gear, barely ever 3rd, and constant braking. I wanted to pull the ebrake on some corners. On 145 tires.... the rear end would come around so easy :)

          These moments are indeed priceless.

this reminds me of the time a Corvette did a 180 following me around a corner. One minute he was on my ass (following me closely for a couple miles, so I decided to play with him a bit), the next he's pointing the other direction. he didn't follow me anymore after that...

Careful when you follow bikes on twisty roads. I was on the ass of a bike down the front of Palomar Mt. (a great twisty road that's popular with bikers) in my old 318TI and the guy highsided in front of me! I stopped the car, and helped him and his friends get the bike up. Fortunately the guy wasn't too hurt (just shooken up) and I had a good set of pads and a recent brake flush.

Regardless of my story, I know exactly what you mean. What a 318 lacks in straightaway power it makes up for in cornering power ;)

I've done technical roads around here in the 318is and on the VTR (modded as well) and I am probably faster in the corners in the cage than on the bike. I take it easier on two wheels and leave a bigger margin for error. Of course blowing by slower traffic is easy on the bike.
