    I'm in. I need one.

Surely they can be fabbed for less than $200, though.....?

i had the original skid plate, and it was 2 weak, if u hit it 4 times it will hit the oil pan. Plus if your car is 2" or lower do not even think of putting the plate, cause it will hang 2" off the floor

what does that mean? because we have bmw's we should pay too much for parts?
Yeah, I get that excuse alot. It shouldn't be an excuse.

Me: Hello, I am looking to get an alignment for my car
Mechanic: Ok, it'll be 60 bucks. What car is it?
        Me: '90 325i
        Mechanic: A bmw?
        Me: Yes
Mechanic: Oh BMWs are more expensive... it'll be 100 bucks

Then I told the guy to go fuck himself and left

On-topic though..... I would be interested in the skid plate. Seeing this might be the only chance I have in a long while, a good 150-200 dollar investment should be worth it. Keep me updated though on: Price, durability and weight. Weight isnt my main concern, but I dont want to pay 200 bucks for something that could break in a month or two, so I'm concerned about it's durability and resistance.

I know, I am afraid of the even more reduced clearance.

That being said, there are a ton of deep scratches on my oil pan

TJ you might have to look into a custom made peice. Or modified truck under covering. Unless you could see into my brain you might not know what I am talking about.

Ive been through the "its a bmw thats more money" treatment from mechanics... bastards.

            Sold it.

The ultimatr skid plan would esentially be part of the frame. A skid plat that could support the weight of the car.

We will see what happens. At worst I'll have a copy of the OEM piece for less money. At best I'll improve the design or maybe even find a way to create a skid plate slash front X brace. If your gonna add weight you might as well add some strength up front.

FWIW: I think the skid plate weighs less then 25 pounds.

There are actual technical reasons for that.

I would think it's cheaper because all they can adjust is toe.

                      Update:

I talked to two custom metal guys. Both told me they can't do it. I have been advised to seek out an ultra expensive custom shop. If they can do it, expect a price of $200 + shipping. When you consider a stock piece runs $240 dealerwholesale, this is a good deal.

The best part is this will add some strength to the front end and the steel used will be a thicker gauge.

                      I will keep you posted.

                        skid plate

I have a wire feed welder in my garage. I plan on fabbing a skid plate for my car within the next 6 months. Looking at the factory skid plate, it shouldn't be too hard and should only cost about $15 for the materials. I'll let everyone know what I do. If it's easy enough, maybe I'll even make several and start selling them.

Well, i gues i've been lucky. I haven't had anything hit my oilpan YET, nor have i had anything hit my front bumper (which is lower than my oilpan), so i wouldn't even bother buying a skidplate. I'm sure my 18's help the height of my car too!!!
