^Nice thread. Don't mean to jack it - actually I think this is a good side bar.
How do you recommend learning welding? I've been wanting to take a class for years. Although, I'm such a "self-taught kind" of person normally - but I really wanted to get my hands on different set-up's to see what is possible, and what tools to buy.
Do you recommend a class to learn or just grab some scrap and learn on your own?Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

Yeah self tought is how many learn, but taking a class at your local C.C. or vocational school is a good way to get your hands dirty and get the basics in and learn a little about the 3 processes

i was lucky and went to a tech highschool where i learned welding. i take it youre a fairly smart/handy type guy- so you should do what someone else suggested and just teach yourself a bit and get familiar with it then take a short night class at a tech school or whatever. and just talk to people you know who weld to get an idea of what to buy, maybe dont buy anything just yet if you have a friend closeby who's equipment you can use.^Nice thread. guy looking at the welder tomorrow - if it's the size of a city bus and has a clamp for stick rather than a little gun with a small tip at the end, then it's an old school arc welder and forget it. They can make good welds and be very strong but unless you're really good they'll be uggggly and there's a lot of slag to clean up after.Comment
