An observation that highlights my shallowness

Just a few years ago, I used to get compliments and stares on a weekly basis while pushing my E30. Everytime I was at a gas station it seemed like I'd get a compliment. In traffic, I got looks all the time.

Now...I never ever ever get compliments about my car. No one even looks my way. WTF?

Is the E30 so old now that even well done models like mine do not warrent attention?

Or is the drop off in compliments because I now live in the shithole of Arizona (Tempe) where I used to live a stone's throw away from the exclusive PV/Scottsdale?

I know how you feel, Eric. There would be periods of time where everyone under the sun was cranking their neck to look at my car, and other times when no one really ever seemed to notice it. It just kind of happened on and off.

Its probably because so many cars are coming with aftermarket style mods straight from the factory that it just isn't anything special anymore. With all the cars coming with body kit style spoilers, 17-20 inch wheels, nice paint, sportier suspension, altezzas and what not, people are not going to notice your car much more than a white Corolla type S with 17s and spoilers. A factory WRX or Evo is basically what a show car was years ago. Big wheels, turboed 300 hp, hood scoops and spoilers and I see those cars all the time.

          E30s get looks?

I get looks while driving... from E34 or other E30 owners.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

That's because they now resemble Pontiacs.

I get a lot of people asking me about my car at gas stations, mostly older guys.

Hmmm, I have much more attention from people than I ever had before. Its actually kinda akward because I dont really want to stand out in front of Hallmark and talk about my car for extended periods of time. Of course that should all stop now, the alpina wheels and dam are safely secured in the basement.
                      Im now E30less.

I've had a few nights where my eta got alot of attention, mostly from bmw driver's or other people who saw me get out of it and said, "nice car I had one just like it years ago". I think I even talked with the first owner of it at Safeway, crazy. I was amazed at the stock eta to get a few looks.

Of course if you lived closer to Scottsdale or PV you'd be surrounded by E36's or E46's, even here in Glendale. I'm sure BMW owners take notice more then other's, hell I saw a perfectly restored M6 and 535i with a huge wing on it at a stoplight yesterday , I almost cried.

You don't want to get too many looks from the wrong people though, I swear everytime I ride in my brother-in-laws' elise wrecks almost happen because people stare at it.
