How severe is the damage when the timing belt breaks off? I found an e30 locally in really nice shape except the owner claims the timing belt broke off and that its nothing too major... LOL

I smell new entire friggin head. Its an IX w/ minimal rust for $900 w/ 209k

still smoking cheap even after head. You could pick cheap head off here and have ix for 1,400 or something.

I would do it. A good head won't be the expensive.

It depends on how much damage there is. It is the valves in the head that will be broken and if only a few are then you could replace the broken ones and have the head resurfaced.

Do it. A Saturday afternoon & you should have yourself a fine-running car.

I just bought it. I checked the 4wd system by jackin the back up and pushing it... rear wheels spun w/ the fronts :) just have to go back and have it towed to my place. Gave the guy a schpeal about how it needs a whole new head and got it for $700 lol

damn! Nice grab! I would love a cheap IX! The head isn't a super hard job to do, make sure you order new gaskets and head bolts/studs as well, don't reuse them.

Do you have a garage? Could you have it towed to Walpole? I'm out of town for 2 weeks but if you're still in need of help after jan 14th I could do it for you.

that doesn't tell you anything. having a blown VC doesn't mean the mechanical AWD is bad.. you need to power the wheels on the ground to tell if it's burned out.

Good luck, but generally $900 ix's are parts cars. if all that's wrong with it is the head, you got a heck of a deal. Either way if it turns out to be shit you can part it out and easily make back your money.

So i just picked up the car... its in really great shape for the year and mileage very minimal rust... in the usual spots i.e. under the door on the sunroof and under the trunk. Battery tray area is excellent and very little shows on the exterior. Interior is also in really nice shape.

So I just started a new mon-fri day job and I'm a snowboard tuning technician nights and weekends...... I think I'm definitely going to have to source someone for the job. If Anyone is interested in making some side cash or what not let me know... I'll try and post some pics soon :)
