Damn that sucks Dan. I know it's been cold for the gulf but i didn't think it was cold enough to do that. I almost want to just leave my perfect dash inside...permanently just to keep it from cracking.

or I could heat the garage........

I believe there becomes a point where it really doesn't matter how much protectant you use-the fact is, these dash's are getting old and brittle and the very cold temperatures we have had lately are what makes them crack.

Same thing happened to my dash right before Christmas. I had left it at a friends house parked outside while we were gone for 4 days. I come back and get in the car and this is what greets me:

      Bam-just like that!

The ironic thing about this whole story is that I had just mentioned to Dan (the OP) that I needed him to try to help me find a replacement dash. He then proceeds to tell me he has a line on one and would get back to me after he gets in touch with the seller. Not even two hours later, Dan tells me that he goes out to his car earlier and now his dash is cracked! Now we have to get a hold of two dash's...

I am going to head to the garage and do some work tonight: replace the Guibo and clutch slave hose. I also need to adjust the valves and install t-stat, exhaust and intake mani. My lightened flywheel should be ready tomorrow. She is getting there.

It gets down around 0 degrees F here quite often in the winter and my car doesn't leave the garage from December to about February or so depending on the year. I am glad I it stays in there and I keep it at lease 50F or so in there. I would be very disappointed to come out and see that on my dash.

just because you posted in it means that your dash is gonna crack.

It sucked, one day my dash is perfect, the next it has a huge split in the center. I'm just going to bit e the bullet and get a new one when the time comes, I'm not risking another 20 year old plastic component in AZ weather.

This happened to my coupe 2 years ago and since then, I havent thrown any more mods in it. Its up to 4 now and i pains me to see them but oh well, it still runs like a dream.

My cabrio is still minty and its not gonna leave the garage. Not until more moderate weather anyway. Even when I do take it out, I keep the heated seats on high with floor heat blowing on low, just enough to get the chill of my bones. This keeps the dash at a equillized temp with no shock to temp spikes.

Dash swapage is not on the list of things I want to do to my e30s.

Mine did the same thing around June last year. It bugs the shit out of me every time I get in it. :hitler:

Agreed. I've seen quite a few mint condition ones here in SoCal, but they probably wouldn't last very long. I'm either going to get mine recovered professionally or get a new one.
