W123 is a very different animal. That's where EVERYTHING is vacuum operated.Comment

But if the battery is dead, the motor doesn't start, so the vacuum operated components don't work, correct?Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

The vacuum operated power door locks are hardly a reason to dislike the car. CIS (Kjet) electromechanical fuel injection system and the non rack and pinion steering are it's biggest faults. Replacing the Kjet with MS on the 16V can net 40hp with no other mechanical modifications. The 16v used the same dogleg manual transmission as the E30 M3.Last edited by tjts1; 01-10-2010, 10:25 PM.Comment

True. I was shocked when I drove my friend's car. Although, my first car was a W123 and I never had a problem. I'm 6'-6".Comment

I had a '73 450 SEL. 6.3 V8. I loved that car. I still have a shell 420 SEL with the 4.5 sitting at my buddies house. Great motor in it but the body is nearly rusted through.
The vacuum on that car was a total pain to fix, but when it worked, it worked well. I had to fix a few lines to the vacuum operated sliders to control the heat (similar to e30's) and they where all original. Broken after, what? 30+ years? Not too shabby in my book...Need a part? PM me.
