I torn between the m42 and the IX.....Ive always wanted to build a 10,000 rpm 4 cyl, but I chose an built all-wheel smoke show.
The looks on the faces when you do 650+ awhp launch in an ratty old e30 looking thing. Muahahaha. Yes, those are my balls dippin in and out of your mouth. Nom Nom.
If you had the choice what would you buy?

Believe me I do but Im only good in basic stuff and most of the time I end up messing things up. I am not confident with brakes and such and I am a perfectionist and thats why I leave it to the pros. Just like anybody can cook but not everyone can be a chef. Wrenching is really not my forte but my imagination and style in cars that you can count on.Last edited by atan88; 01-24-2010, 12:56 AM.Leave a comment:

Glad to see you went with the m42 Alvin, is it a slicktop? Can't wait to see what you do with it.
It's a dbilas ITB setup. You buy it from dbilas in Germany and it's alot... 2k brand new I believe. Just leave it at that.

I've seen people who earn a shitload of money and who are very intelligent completely fail at working on cars. Some people can work with their hands, some people can't.Please. It takes a juniorhigh education to be able to wrench on cars professionally. Anyone with some determination can do it. Someone well-off-enough to be able to pay the pros for projects most probably has the mental capacity to not royally fuck things up. "time/space/inclination/tools" are excuses for someone in a decent socioeconomic position.Leave a comment:

Well, they're all really slow. I'd choose the 318is because it's the most nimble, lightweight, and gets the best mileage.Leave a comment:

I solved the 4 door problem with an e34 touring, although I'd rather have an e38 touring if they were available.Leave a comment:

89 325i 4 door. Need the practicality of the two extra doors ever now and then. I only have coupes right now.Leave a comment:

I look forward to what you do with this 318iS, based on your other builds I can assume nothing but awesomeness...may I suggest:

Without reading the entire thread here's my answer...
Nor cal is your only listed location...if you regularly head to the mountians I'd grab the Ix hands down, after having pickups in both 2 and 4 wheel drive the 4x4s are much nicer in the snow, it won't get you any further, but less hastle with chains and muck.
If you live where it's twisty back roads but you don't head to the SNOW regularly grab the 318is, better fuel economy, less overall weight, a lot less weight on the front end so it'll be more fun on the winding back roads, pick-and-pull is full of fairly cheap e30s, if anything breaks you can almost always find it there and keep the enjoying an affordable car effect.
4 door...you got kids or something? It might make a fun sleeper if you keep it stock looking and drop in a 300 hp s52
