    Trucks...

My girlfriend is in the market for a truck.
It must be able to tow at least 8k pounds.

    Her price range is $15-$20k.

    Any recommendations?

We've been looking at Ford Super-Duty's for the most part.
Any particular things to look out for? I would love for her to get a diesel motor, but they definitely command a much higher price. How is the V10?

    TIA.

What year range is she looking at? 15-20k for a PSD means mid - later 90's, which can obviously give some issues on financing.

That's the ideal spot for diesel trucks, gives you a lot to wade through. As for the V10, it's a fairly reliable motor, takes a huge hit on depreciation, so you might be able to get some deals. I know there were a few years of flaky automatics for that motor, but the engine itself seems to be a good lump. Gets absolutely abyssmal mileage (single digit range), but you already knew that I'm sure.

If Alex doesn't chime in on this thread, PM him, he's got a PSD.

What's she pulling, a horse trailer?

Father in law's got a V10 triton F250, quick son of a gun plenty of power, it lurches with power thats for sure but mpg: suck, gets like 13mpg. It's fun to drive though and can pull an e30 thats for sure.

        Thanks for the reply.

She's looking for a later model truck, probably '98 or newer. I know it will be pretty tough to find a late model superduty diesel in her price range.
On the V10, I do know about the horrible gas mileage. They do depreciate very quickly though, and there are a bunch of XLT 4x4s in that price range.

You got it, horse trailer. She hasn't bought one yet, but she wants a gooseneck-type.

Typically Ford automatics blow, my dad know a lady who has a new Explorer that has gone through 2 transmissions in a year. Dodge is also bad at transmissions.

My girlfriend has 2 horses. Her trailer is a gooseneck. Her momma drives a fairly new (within the last coupel years) Chevy Silverado HD Quadcab diesel. That thing is a friggin beast but on the highway they get around 20-22mpg which is purrrrdy good :) As long as you dont drive the hell out of the diesel trucks gas mileage shouldnt be "that" bad. If I were gonna get a truck...get the boxy style Silverado diesels or the Dodge Ram with the Cummins diesel. Those rock and should prolly be able to get a Ram at least close to the price range.

Dodge diesels are great bang for the buck.

I'll be getting a Chevy 2500HD (with duramax) whenever I can afford it :P

I'll get a ford when hell freezes over and satan gives out free snowcones.
