Anyone been on I80 recently between sacramento and reno? I'm heading up to a place just outside of reno and going snowboarding this weekend. Hopefully it will stay clear and the roads won't be too bad, although I know traffic will be terrible. But the snow sure is going to be nice.

I went last Wednesday. No traffic and great weather. I dont think you will run into to many problems.

Lately CalTrans has been able to keep the roads pretty clear for the most part. I know that during the morning black ice can be a problem in the higher elevations.....particularly over bridges and areas where melted snow found its way to the asphault and froze during the night. The key is to watch your speed!!! According to the CHP, that's the #1 reason why folks wind up in accidents during these kinds of conditions.

If you're heading up this weekend, make every effort to leave early. Since its a 3-day, I can imagine a number of folks will be leaving work during their lunch hour on Friday to make the trek up the hill in hopes to beat the crowds. To get a leg up on them, leave Friday morning. I just saw a news story on channel 3 this eveing and there is a ton of snow up there....up to 20 feet deep in some spots. That's plenty to go around for a while. Just plan on dealing with a lot of crowds this coming weekend. Enjoy your trip!

And while you're tearing up the slopes, I'll be changing a timing belt and adjusting valves

P.S. There's potential for some rain here in Sac on Saturday. You may see snowfall up there.

Yeah I'm leaving from Davis after I get out of class at 2, so I should be ahead of a lot of the bay area traffic. And I'm taking a subaru legacy rather than my car, which definitely helps. I've driven in the snow a fair amount, so I'm not worried. I'm definitely one of the slower drivers in the snow, better safe than sorry.

Are there many people from sac on this board?....I'm at school in Davis and it would be cool to meet some poeple from this board at some point. Ha, and see some examples of what i'd like my car to be like once I'm finished paying all this damn tuition and whatnot.

I live in Sac too....but I'm old and balding. You wouldn't want to be seen with me in public.

Yeah, I mean, the only times I will meet up with Jon is when we are in front of an Asian Supermarket in the dark. 8)

well the snow was just decent this weekend. Pretty sticky on saturday since it was quite warm out, and then a bit hard on sunday thanks to saturdays warmth. I ended my day early sunday when I took a particularly hard fall. I was goin pretty fast when I hit some choppy snow and just knew it was over...I slid down the hill a ways before going into a quick roll, which stopped abruptly when the tail of my board stuck straight into the hill at about a 90 degree angle. It went all the way in to my binding, and was a bit of a bitch to get out, but i'm sure it looked funny as hell. After two more runs my ankle was hurting more and more from the fall, to the point where I couldn't do toeside turns because of the pain. So after waiting another hour or so to see if the pain would go away, I had it checked at first aid where the doctor told me I definitely had a sprained ankle. For now I'll just have to milk some sympathy from people and come up with a cooler story about how it happened.
