What wagon would you buy...AND WHY ?

I’m helping some find a car.

They want a wagon 1996 or newer. Price range around 10K

Ones I have thought of so far:

-Ford focus wagon (Do these cars last – I’ve never considered buying a ford myself)
-Subaru outback/impreza wagon (I like them but they seem pricey)
-Subaru legacy wagon (still too pricy)
-Suzuki esteem wagon (freaking cheep – will it last?)
-VW jetta wagon (only came out in 2003 my fav so far but too much)
    -VW passat wagon

What else should we be looking at?
    Give me your thoughts.

The buyer is thinking ford focus. I know nothing about them. Anything I should tell them about these cars.

    Thanks,

    Spencer

Would have to go back to '95 at least for that one, but I second it. I'm actually looking at these for my wife right now. Test drove a black one last Thursday. You can get them well under $10k and it's a lot of car for the money.

          e34 525i Touring.

This car is rare around here. It would be too much $ and there are none for sale.

Portege5 would be great. Out of the price range and there seem to be none for sale.

There are a few 1995 BMW E34 M5 Tourings around. Know of one for sale locally. Complete with Nurburgring package and M-Tech cloth interior.

#1 wagon on face of the earth :)

I dunno how having one for sale, but I got a ride on a Portege5 and I asked the guy how much he paid for it. He said he got it with a couple of optionals, brand new, for $13k.... I would assume one with 5k miles would drop down to 10k

I would go with a Subaru if I had to have a wagon with amenities.

For a beater, I would go with the tank-like Volvo 240.

The wife and I are getting the Subaru Legacy GT Wagon. $24,500~$25,000 gets you 250hp/250trq, 5 speed man, factory short shift, sport cloth interior with manual seats, great handling and 0-60 of about 5.6 secs. I was amazed at the build quality and handling.

                      Ben :D

Volvos have been owning the sector for a while. Plus you can get a turbo. Not an option you can find on many wagons except for the Volvo.

Record setting amount of recalls, safety and non. I'd stay away.
