For those running Linksys WIFI 802.11G...

Search for a hacked firmware for the 2.04 routers called: wolf-alchemy-60rc1w42.bin

It gives you full control of the router. It allows you to control which antennas do what and to control the transmit wattage. The stock setting is 28milliwatts up to 280. I boosted mine up to 100 and it just made my second AP obsolete because the first now covers the range easy. Note, this only works on the firmware 2.04 and newer routers, the wireless G ones.

Methinks I am gonna trade it in on a high gain antenna and make that my RX antenna.

Can you explain this in Laymens terms?
I have a Wireless G 2.4Ghz router and 2 comps running off it... I randomly get booted off system and have to change the operating Freq. to get back online.

Pm me with your preferred email and i can shoot you the file.

Basically its just a firmware upgrade, but its a firmware that has been opened up to make you god. One part of being god is taking the limiter off. Stock the router is limited to 28milliwatts of power. You can boost it up to 280 milliwatts (cellphones commonly run up to 200mw).

You install this firmware, do a hard reset of the router, reset to factory defaults. Then configure like day one. Once that is all done go into the wireless menu, go to advanced. Down at the bottom there is now a few more options. one is xmit power. Up to to whatever you want (I wouldnt go straight to 280 though, run on a lower duty cycle if you can). I chose 100 but 50 would cover my house still.

It also opens up 3 more channels just in case you have a lot of traffic around you.

Shit, this must be software for a router sold to small biz. It supports bridging of networs via VLANS, VPNs, opens up QoS controls, shit, its like having an 1100.

I do this for a living. This means for most small clients I could use these cheapass things to do most of what they want instead of paying Cisco dues.

Perks of being friends with my Cisco instructor - CHEAP deals on this Linksys/Cisco equipment. I think I'll go pick one up soon. :)

Right now I've got a Catalyst switch and a 2500 series router in the closet that I fixed, heh.

I can get good prices on Cisco stuff too but, shit, I have yet to find new warrantied 1600s for $40 after rebate. Although its a bit slower and running Linux the Linksys router with this firmware would be plenty for most smaller applications.

Im not sure but I wouldnt be shocked. I suspect that ALL of their products are the same router with just different software/cards installed (just like Cisco). I just noticed this one because it applies to me personally.

                          I will look tonite.

By chance do you think a Dlink (Linksys's rival) would be the same? I got a new 108 instead of my 11 PCI Wireless card, wondering if I don't need to buy the new router...
