I wish absolute pain and suffering to toyota. I want them to fail. They havent made a cool car in 14 years ( their last good one was the 1996 Supra) All the cars they have now, and all their concept cars are boring and fuck ugly. So they can die, eat a dick, burn in hell, roll over, and burn again.

I love the anger at Toyota in here. I'm sure it stems from many different things and i'd probably agree with some of them. This is a PR disaster for them and hopefully they'll come out stronger and make a better product when all is said and done.

I've been working for Toyota for 10 years now and since the time i started to now, i've seen the quality decrease. Alot of that stems from the increase in domestic production. To me its part of a larger problem, and thats the shitty quality of work that America produces. All of it to save money. Look at the big 3, ruined due to shitty craftsmanship, parts(suppliers), overpaid workers.

The big recall going on now deals with 2 types of gas pedals. 1 has the problem with it mechanically sticking. One company is Japanese, and the other is American. Guess which one has the problem?

Disagree. Love the tacoma. Among other vehicles that are really quite good for their segment.

imho toyotas are perfectly good cars, just not really for most enthusiasts. For anyone who wants a modicum of driving involvement, well, you'd better look elsewhere.

                +1.

I've made it a personal goal to council friends, family, and anyone else who will listen on the evils of Toyota / Lexus

There are at least two generations of inconsiderate, dumb-ass, latte sipping drivers who wouldn't know how to use a turn signal if they attended nightly classes taught at the local Star*ucks and I blame mind numbing cars and SUVs like the Camry, Prius, RX, Yaris, Echo (nice name for a car), RAV4, etc.

So far I've successfully talked three people out of buying a Toyota / Lexus (2 Toyota, 1 Lexus).

If you love cars, your revolution should start now. Find a drinking buddy, your wife's yoga instructor, ANYONE, and tell them why Toyota / Lexus sucks ass.

I actually don't think they're that great. The utes ("pick-ups") drive like buckets of shit compared to their competition and don't have the benefit of superior reliability. Their servicing and parts (out here) regularly costs far and above what other Japanese manufacturers charge, too.

I see no reason to accept "regular" cars have to be boring, overly plastic-styled, dynamically inept whitegoods on wheels. The VW Golf is a "regular" car to me, but it is a hell of a lot nicer inside and more fun to drive than a Corolla or Camry and is just as reliable and similarly priced.

Why settle for what they foist upon you?

Nothing wrong with Toyota/Lexus for most people...

You're going to blame one auto maker for American's driving poorly? Please, you can't be serious.

My mom has a rav4 and I honestly love it. It rides pretty firm and I wouldn't call it a boring car. (All things considered... it's a small SUV after all)

Ummmmmm Here we go with more miss placed blame and failure to see the big picture bashing American work and productivity again. Yeah thats it............... its all American manufacturing's fault

We are now starting to see yota and honda going through the same shit that the big 3 did in the late 70-early 90's. You see in the 70's the Big 3 put out crap becuase they could, they were the only game in town, plain and simple. Then you have the Japs (not useing that as a derogatory term) come in with cheap and imposable to kill autos.

You see This where you have people buying the little cars that last for ever building their reputation of reliability, this is why you have people in their teens-40's that are fiercely brand loyal to the jap marks as any big 3 truck guy. Because dad always had xxxxxxx and never had an issue.

Well now they are coasting on that reputation and the corner cutting is really starting to show and the recall rates are the proof in the pudding just like the big 3 were in the 70's and 80's. This is why the GM and Ford have made leaps and bounds over the last 15 years, they have had to to stay alive, go try out some of the new Malibu's or 500's, you will be really surprised. Next this is also why the Koreans are doing so well as well, they are in the same place as Honda/Yota were in the early 80's

                        Pretty much all this.

Toyota/Honda built their rep in the 80's, solidified it in the 90's, and have coasted since then. Look at the debacles with the Honda Minivan & Accord transmissions, look at all the problems with the Toyota V6s, look at the tons and tons of recalls on the newer cars. Look at the overall shit quality in a modern accord/camry. They've dropped way off.

So now they are trying to blame it on the US Mfg Co. that built the part. That is total bullshit! Is Toyota's fault. At least they were forced by the government to shut down the plants.
The issue here, is that they could sell any kind of shit and people would buy it regardless. The press would would brown nose them till the end. Maybe now that they kill the US based brands they will go after Toyota.
It is well documented that every time there is/was a recall from Ford/Gm/Chrysler the news will make the front page of newspapers. If it was a Jap/German the news would get bury in the back.
In the past 15 years I had 8 new cars (My business, wife and myself). 6 domestic an e46 330i and a clk 500 (current wife's car). Guess which cars love to see the dealer?

How come nobody went after Mercedes after they destroy Chrysler? They left the company with a fucked up model line, took the best enginneers and left.

How is that toyotas fault? they sourced a company to make them parts in the US and the parts that company is building are failing. The failing pedals are built by CTS...all the jap built cars have Nippo-Denso (sp?) pedals in them and have not had any problems.

Also this problem has only been found in higher mileage cars, so says
Toyota records, which would mean the US made pedals are wearing out....

Toyota is not in the market to build cars for the car enthusiast, they build commuter cars which is where most of the market is, I work on them everyday and they are pretty good quality for the money you pay.

Yup you get what you pay for, this is the symptom of the China syndrome, where sure we can make this part for that price but there will be some compromises . built by the lowest bidder that in this case is a American firm. and yeah shit will wear out when it gets old no matter who makes it. Nice try though you get B for effort
