Is this the OEM E30 Telecom System?

So we picked my wife up an 91 318is MT2 awhile back. This was a basket case. But it was total baller package. Anyway, have all the kinks worked out except the radio. Long story short, the OEM radio is fried and while going through the system, I pulled this out.....

Is this the OEM Telecom system?

I looked it over and it says Motorola and Made in the USA. So I doubt it's OEM now. And whoever installed it did a great job. It was a bitch to get out. I had to pull carpet, panels and other parts. Another reason why I though it may be factory. Most people wouldn't go through the effort to install the system this well.

I had the same piece of shit in mine. May have been a dealer installed option or something. Its so ancient that Motorola has NO information on it
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

i had one of those in my car too. i dont think its OEM cuz of how bad the wiring job was. loops under the back seat and in the trunk, non-factory ground point, wires ran across the engine bay... i still have it, just in a box in my mom's garage.

There were no factory installed phones, just dealer installed ones.

The e30 was an expensive car, and car phones were an especially expensive option. You'll find some top-notch professional installations. They were also high demand, easily sold cars. I'm sure there were some quick-n-sleazy installs that lasted only until the black tape fell off of the twisted together wires.

Someday an original car phone installation will be as rare, sought after, expensive and useless as a car turntable sound system.

Damn, If I knew it might be worth something someday, I wouldnt have snipped all the miles of useless wiring, and sold it for copper

I still have the control unit if anyone wants the damn thing though (ballast??)
