e31's were about 20 years ahead of it's time - I'd give lefty for one.

Thats true. Would rather have one built with a few of today's advancements but with the fit and finish of those older cars. I would pick one over those ugly E63s.

it'd probably be easy to find one in good condition with a motor needing way more work than is sane to spend money on (probably the v12), then one could just swap in an M50 LOL

They remind me too much of a Opel/Vauxhall Calibra. Thats why I'm not to fond if them..

no. just no. for that money now a days you could buy a nice m3 or even a decent used m5. those cars were nothing more than a pathetic leap towards a super car for BMW. Is the e30 good? yes, why do you think they continued them? can't say the same for these cars.

while i love bmws and will never sell my e30 along with the fact that my next car will be an x3. The 8 series was thrown together to fast and lacks BMW's trade mark as being the ultimate driving machine.

These cars were SO expensive in their day...I remember well that you could damn near buy 3 E30M3s for what these sold for.

I want the one that was sold in Chameleon. BMW has done only 1 car in that color ever.

One day I will find one. I passed on buying a while on grey V8 6 speed. Wish I had gotten it.

                Closing SOON!

You are making no sense. I forgot, X3 is an awesome car and e30 is still in production

I don't know anything about how an e31 handles or performs but I imagine that with some suspension tweaks it would be quite fun.

Electrical, reliability, and expense problems aside, i just really like the true coupe design (no B pillar) and just overall I think it looks badass. Swapping in a less troublesome drivetrain would complete the package I think.

                    Hey, I can dream can't I? :p

You know why the E31 sucks? See above.

have you ever driven an e31? You cant beat the rumble of a big v12 and the feel with the 6 speed.

Yes they are big but they were built to showcase and test the advancements of BMW at that time and as a long distance cruiser, not to race on an autox course.

It defined the ultimate luxury at that time and used technology that was used on the e36 m3, e46 m3 and who knows what else ten years prior to their actual release.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

I've driven several, including a 6 speed one. Feels like a boat had a one night stand with an e38 7 series and the consequence was shameful 8 series babies.

You guys want the 8 for the wrong reason. The point of that car is to pack your luggage, get in and close the bank vault like doors and then cruise at like 140 all day long or until that V12 drinks up all the fuel.

                              sounds like fun to me!

still, i appreciate learning that the 8, while exotic, may not be the "driver's car" i wish it was. Oh well.

                              back to more calculus...

I'll gladly take an 8 and swap in a turbo m60/2, I rather have 2 less cylinders for a more reliable e34/9 v8. Can't complain there, e30 is for autox, 850 is for cruising to the yacht club. Damn it's such a sexy car!
