Upcoming cars to be excited about?

With the trends in current cars shifting towards fatter, heavier, more electronically burdened automobiles, and with the cancellation of many more "sporty" cars(S2k replacement and RS4 come to mind), what cars do we have to look forward to?

Anything coming out in the near or not so near future that will have a lightweight chassis, small displacement/high output, RWD, standard tranny that sounds interesting?

I believe only Lotus makes cars of that description anymore, and I doubt they have plans to make a 2380 pound RWD 5 seater with an inline-6 and a big trunk. Like, say, an '84 323i.

The pending FT86 will get a test drive, but I doubt I will seriously ever consider buying one. Toyotas and I have never been a good match. They've built some appealing cars... for boy-sized drivers. At 6'4", I need to fit in the car to enjoy it. I do not reckon the FT will be suited for drivers who shop in the mens department. Not to mention the Power Rangers styling...

The recently bowed Genesis coupe has been interesting on paper. In person it looks a lot better than its ugly pictures. The design expression in that quarter light is pointless and contributes to the car looking like its doors were donated from something else. It too will not be a contender for my dollars except perhaps for many years from now when I want (or need to replace!) my E30 track toy.

Porsche is thinking of making something smaller than the boxster. I say in in the new C&D.

Possible 2dr panamara? Much better as a coupaay.

BTW, I just test drove the new 5series GT. They should just take the Roundel off the front and slap on a freightliner badge on it. What a big a$$ car. 80k? good luck with that.

The OP mentioned the words "lightweight chassis." The Genesis coupe 4-cylinder weighs in at a svelte 3300 pounds. If you want a new car with two row seating and RWD, you're not going to find lightweight. The world has moved on, and car buyers look primarily at safety ratings. The only semi-lightweight chassis with 4+ seats are FWD econoboxes with tiny engines. You can either buy a new car that's heavy, or build up an old one that's light.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

I'm actually happy to see the new Genisis Coupe 2.0T. It's no featherweight, but who else makes a RWD, 6-speed 4cyl turbo? That's the stuff I'm talkin' bout. Too bad it's a fucking hyundai.

Meh, its the way of the future. Soon they'll be the only ones making cars under 3200 pounds, that arent cripplied by 135 electronic systems :p

Shame on them wanting to bring back the Demon name and put it on that thing...

even though i hate the FI idea in M cars but I love M5's so much I can't not get excited about it, and the F458 Ferrari is pretty sick
