talk me out of buying a 2002

i've got the oppurtunity to pick up a 76 2002 in good to excellent condition for 600 bucks. exterior is in awesome condition, motor is good, the interior needs some work. talk me out of it, give me all the cons of owning an 02

      1. Rust
      2. Diving board bumpers
      3. Square tail lights

You are from OC, so you can move rust down the list a bit if it is a CA car. :D

Seriously...if it is in good condition, buy it! Keep these cars on the road. I'm not going to talk you out of anything!

Check the shock towers, trunk, rear subframe area, and under the hood for rust. If it's pretty solid, get it. Sucks it's not round tails, not a true 2002. But a rust bucket isn't worth the shit you took this morning..

It's a 30 year old car, you had trouble maintaining an e30.

It's a 600 dollar 02, it will have rust. You don't see it, so it means frame rust.

My favorite car ever was my 46k mile 72 2002Tii that I had in '82 I wish I could find one in anywhere near the virtually perfect condition it was in (until an asshole ran the light at Fairfax & Wilshire and totaled it)

They are great cars and I highly recommend them. Getting one for 600 bucks in running condition is a steal 2002ad is a huge junkyard that specializes in 2002's they have everything you need and are in Palmdale about 90 miles from OC.

                I miss my inca 02!

Ditto here. Ask me how many years and how many tens of thousands of dollars my 71 2002 has into it and how much more it needs!!!

True square taillights and more smog crap (in CA. at least) are not as desireable but still a great car

Ok my first 2002 (a 71) I got in 1980 for 1000 was a total money pit. I bought 7k in parts from Zipper BMW in West L.A. over an 18 month period (replaced everything just about except the powertrain (rebuilt the motor though) but when a drunk driver rear ended it on the 405 between Balboa Island and Carson the insurance company gave me the whole 7K!

HE HE I got the Tii for 4500 and love is too weak a word for how I felt about it!

Excuse my ignorance, but why does everyone hate on the square tailights so much. :?

They came on cars after 74 which had divingboards & smog controls, they moved away from the "pure" 2002 essence and are disliked.
