been a looong time lurker. i've probably been visiting r3v for about 5 years now, but i didnt own a bmw so i didnt see a point in registering. i have been wrenching on e30s for about that long though. first serious gf had an e30 4 door, put new cylinder head on that. she was always terrible with maintenance and bent all the valves 6 months after we broke due to her timing belt breaking. which i told her to replace.. anyway... my brother had an e32iL, now has an e36is. both my best friends have 325is, and another friend has a 535is. oh yeah, and one of the 325is owner's dad has 3 80s bmws, m5, m6, and a 633csi. and a 97 740iL.
i was surrounded. i had to get out. so i bought a mazda rx8.
over the years i've modded it a bit. this is it on its summer tires, 245/40/18 toyo t1rs. its currently on 225/50/17 bridgestone blizzaks.

and here is a pic of me and my current gf, the day i graduated from OCS. :)

and before you ask, yes i have newdz of her, no you cant see them.
but i finally crumbled and bought an old bmw. i just need something cheap to beat around, that if it gets hit in a parking lot i wont care. my rx8 has had 9 comprehensive claims in 2.5 years, $100 deductible. its a target. you'd think red would stand out, but it keeps getting hit... so i've been looking for a cheap fixer upper and i found it. 1986 325es, with an 87 i motor in it. 89k on the chassis. bottlecaps, w/e. $400 and i (currently) think it was a pretty good deal. interior is pretty good. volvo front seats, and i think the rest of the interior was originally red, because its been painted/dyed black to match the front seats. again, w/e.
i was told the engine was seized, but its not. i cranked it for 2 seconds and it turns over, it just doesnt sound very good. the guy hit something on the interstate and apparently didnt see the oil pressure go way down and the big oil light go off. heh. so he just kept driving until the engine stopped running. so i bought it with the intention that the engine needs to be replaced, but i think there is a good shot at it being fixable. it needs new oil cooler lines and an oil cooler. good news is, if the engine is shot, my buddy and i bought a 91 318is with a 6cyl swap parts car last summer for his car. engine is pretty good in that car, so if need be, we'll swap it over.
so tomorrow, im going to put oil in it and bypass the cooler and just run the oil back into the engine. just to see if it starts and runs. and if it runs, does it knock, etc. and if it runs ok for a minute or two, i'll go buy an oil cooler and see if it runs for an hour or two. heh. otherwise im looking at an engine swap.
i could say a great deal about this car.. but i'll let the pics speak for themselves.

my current car being jdm yo, im used to cf intakes and blue silicon hoses and ill fitting replica body kits, but they have to go. haha. any interested in a cf intake? free to trade for stock intake box.
and the matte black primer paint job, big funny there. at least its not bronzit. haha.
