It's sitting in my driveway. :( I texted Yun this morning informing him that the batman car was sitting in my driveway. His response was "noooooooooooooo." It's gonna be fun.

Um yeah, that car is nothing but absolute trouble. I know of the guy you bought it from and I know the guy who sold it to him (who bugged the hell out of me to buy it the first time around). That car is in disastrous shape. good luck getting anywhere with it other than a glorified track rat (assuming you can actually keep it running long enough!) I'm sure you've noticed the copious amount of fiberglass and bondo that still need to be removed.

either way, welcome to r3v and we have a weekly meet every friday, check the Mid-Atlantic section. you should come out.

it is a pile of shit. thats exactly what it is. thats why i bought it. if i wanted to spend some real money and buy a nice e30, i would have bought a clean e30 m3. but the fact of the matter is, an e30 is 20 year old technology and a new honda civic will take it out on the track. (granted not the m3. maybe a si, im not sure on that. but a 86is vs a 2006 civic coupe. sure.)

i wanted several things. i need to teach my gf to drive and she needs a car to drive. im not going to let her drive my rx8. i wanted to learn how to do body work and paint, and this car is perfect for that since its paint is not even semi-decent. its not entirely covered in bondo, but the drivers side rear quarter panel has some pretty thick layers. it'll get knocked off, and fixed correctly one sunny saturday afternoon.

i also wanted something to commute in. i took one more semester, just to take a few extra classes (i'll end up with over 140 credits) but the schedule is horrible. i commute to baltimore every day. my rx8 gets 19mpg on premium. sometimes 17. it sucks. of course, this car has a 4.10 LSD. but at least i dont have to put premium in it. anyone want to swap for a 3.73 LSD? heh.

          i paid $400.

of course its crap. lol. i dont think you can buy a non-crappy car for $400.

but, it was still a really good deal. because i got it running in less than 2 hours. it cost me a $8 piece of tube and $13 of autozone oil. i cut out the section of oil cooler line that was busted, put the tube in there and clamped it down. put 5 qts of oil in there and after some finagling it runs. also has over 100psi in every cylinder. it seems to have some valve tap on cylinder 5, but im ok with that. i'll see if it goes away after a bit of driving. if it doesnt, its cool, i'll put the cylinder head from my friends parts car on it.

and i wanted a car i could wrench on. the rx8 is expensive to wrench on and nothings wrong with it. so, not much to do except look at it. unless i want to drop thousands of dollars. i have a greddy turbo kit for it sitting in my basement, but i recently sold it and the buyer is paying in installments.

e30s are cheap. and if i hit a tree in it, so the fuck what. and even better, it'll be my gf's first car, and she is BOUND to hit something. she has the spatial reasoning of a pair of nail clippers. its going to happen.

the car is not really in disastrous shape. it really only needs 2 things. a cylinder head (easy enough, especially since i have an extra. actually, i have 2 extras) and a fresh coat of paint. for $400, it was a bargain.

it'll get titled and tagged tomorrow and i'll start driving it around. see what happens, see how quickly i need to change the cylinder head.

yes, i am a big fan of knives. the kershaw amphibian is just a beautiful knife. hence the screen name.

as to the question about the rx8, why not? its a great drivers car. although i still sometimes regret not getting a 2001 z3 m coupe.

the rx8 only has a few mods.
          aem intake
          3" turboxs exhaust
          3" straight pipe
axial flow short shifter + mazdaspeed shift knob
          accessport engine management
buddy club body kit, full and its genuine
          ipod stereo hack
          hawk hps brake pads
and maybe some other small things im forgetting.

          i live in hyattsville.

its pretty expensive, sure. but you get your moneys worth if you treat it right. you just have to understand ahead of time what you will get out of it. the handling is sublime, its like nothing i've ever driven before. it blows away an e46 in the handling department. never driven an e46 m3, so i cant comment on that. it has an amazing suspension system. its just a lot of fun to drive. people that have driven both cars say you really need to go to the porsche cayman to find something comparable handling wise and i believe them. i havent driven anything else that is remotely close to the rx8. its hard to explain, but with the rx8 you feel like you become one with the car. you strap it on. its intuitive. its really responsive. the chassis is amazing. if you jack up one corner of the car, you can still open and close all doors with no resistance. the amount of flex is negligible. its a very stiff chassis. unlike the e30, i jacked it up right under the hinge and it had problems opening and closing. haha.

there are only 2 things i dont like about the rx8. the 160lbs/ft of torque and the 18mpg per tank. if it had 200lbs/ft+ and got 25-30mpg, it would be perfect. or if it had a ls1. heh.

the 2000-2002 z3 m coupe has the s54, so thats even sexier.

the work meisters in your sig are pretty damn sexy too.

no, i've never driven an r32. if the question is related to my car choice, 3500lbs does not appeal to me.
