edit: it wasn't tar, but huge heavy rubber mats that covered the trunk, that were doubled up aswell.
That sounds like standard E30 tar.

Removing the trunk tar didn't seem to throw the car off at all. It didnt mess up my stance either. I measured before and after. I also took out the spare tire and it didnt do anything. If it made a difference I can't notice it. It could be quicker.

take it for a spin in the rain. Feels more apt to kick the rear out without the trunk tar, atleast in my opinion.
        Jah bless! :pimp:

Its been raining a lot in San Jose and it doesnt seem to lose control, I still feel like I have control and the rear doesnt fly out.
I do have new tires though ...seems fine

I had the same experience, but my car had even more tar than 50lbs I believe. It was pretty unwieldy until i got stickier tires, and really until i put my wing on which added 4k lbs of downforce.

MT2....which I think it really has to do with the 20lbs that that thing weighs lol.

Its fairly heavy because it is made out of some heavy duty plastic and not fiberglass. Also it is sitting pretty high up so overall it was probably a terrible idea to get rid of the tar and replace it with a bit of aero up top.

Stupid comment deleted. Stickier tires fixed the tail-happy condition post-tar.

Yes, he's absolutely correct. Euro 6-cylinder cars without A/C and/or P/S didn't have the tar as there was no need to counter the weight up front. 4-cylinder cars didn't have it either, for the same reason-- balance.

I thought they put the battery back there to control the noise too....
