you might be thinking of EAC (the program) and lame (the encoder)

Exact Audio Copy is a so called audio grabber for CDs using standard CD and DVD-ROM drives. The main differences

there are tons out there though. itunes will probably work fine. 192vbr is a good place to start...

Unless you have an Audigy 2 soundcard hooked up to a bitchin home stereo system, EAC and lame really aren't worth the extra time they take to encode.

well actaully i do lol.. and I found my EAC install.

I have an audigy 2 Platinum hooked up to my 500watt logitech system, no home stereo but still very nice sound system for my room/ computer.

ANY computer speaker system = not good enough to warrant the extended amount of time the EAC and Lame takes. Unless you have some Def Techs and an HK, I wouldn't bother.

I dunno, some of the higher end PC stuff sounds pretty nice. it's not like anyone is making MP3s for audiophile equipment anyway.. right. right?!?

EAC doesn't really take that much longer if you have a fast computer anyway ;)

Exactly. I don't understand why people want to make 'high quality' MP3s when they're less than CD quality to begin with.
