    Anyone in Sarasota?

My wife and I are looking at different places in the country to move so we can get the hell out of Houston. Sarasota is on our long list. I've never been to Florida but it looks pretty nice. Anyone there give me some insider info?

We're going to be in Tampa for the last week of May and will probably drive around the whole area and check it out.

I don't blame ya. I have family in Katy and can't stand that place (though they love it there).

I'm from Sarasota Thad. So is boom-monkee. It's a beautiful area, great roads, there is a good amount of stuff and its close to many large cities if you want more excitement. Tampa is about 45 minutes/1 hour away, and Orlando is about 2-2.5 hours away. The weather is nice, and the town is pretty quiet without any ghetto sections (ghetto is up in Bradenton) and a low crime rate.

Sarasota probably has one of the best beaches on the east coast of the U.S. also. White sand is like powdered sugar!

Edit: I get out of school in April, so I will be home in May. You and your wife are welcome to stop by.

Sarasota is a great place to live, especially in the summer when the snowbirds are gone. Depending on the kind of vibe you want you may want to take a serious look at living in Venice, especially on the island. It's onlt about 20 min south of Sarastoa taking US 41. It's a great small town and one of the best places to raise kids (coming from the view of fa kid growing up in Venice). Also you can still get a fairly good deal on a house on the island and then watch the land value skyrocket. Since buying our house 7 years ago it's gone from a $125k value to around $400k. Definately a good investment. Plus you can still buy a lower priced house within blocks of the beach rather than in Sarastoa where the land value is greater and getting near thr beach will cost you an arm and a leg.

Venice is a nice area too, it's more historic and cultural than Sarasota. My friend has a house on the island in Sarasota and it was ~6 million and it's not one of the bigger ones really.

In the last 10 or so years, our house inland has gone from ~$100,000 to about $250-275,000 in value.

but i guess you get what you pay for, here in la jolla the average house costs above a million dollars
and for one million you would get a cheap inland shack

There is *some* surf, and the east coast is only 2 hours away.

We're looking at a lot of places. My wife has about marked off Oregon though because it gets cold.

La Jolla is nice, we spent 2 days there on the way home with my car, but San Diego is bigger than we want and way too expensive.

ya definitely not the cheepest of places, if i wasnt living off of my pasrents right now i dont know how id survive, id have to make like 2 million a year to keep from starving...

its been getting more and more rediculous, new people moving in, making the prices of living skyrocket, i dont get how these people afford it, 3/4 of la jolla couldnt afford to buy a house now, they just bought before it got like this

I live in West Palm Beach. The surf has definately been good this winter. This was last week:
