yeah it was stupid, wont do anything again without double-checking. i got a new diff for 200 bucks and its already installed. it was full of oil but i drained it before driving it and swapping in some synthetic gear oil haha.

now i just have an alternator issue.....

This has got to be the nicest r3v thread I've read where someone made a mistake possibly risking the lives of themselves and others.

Anyways, OP, thx for thread, reminds me to pick some up on the way home.

    dont feel bad.

my old H.S. boss at pizza hut took 6 months to rebuild his 72 camaro
spent everything on it, chromed out crazy
it was a shiny beast, and he got all ready to go
    got his clean clothes on,
    invited us all over
    put on his racing gloves
    got in,
started it up, (so loud i couldn't hear the train going by 80 feet behind his house)
he was able to get it in reverse before it seized up and rolled backwards another 20 feet.
    his eyes wide open
    his hood open.
checking the dipstick and just walked in his house and drank all the alcahol he could afford for a while...

we found out he never bought oil or added any before starting it up. and he had to rebuild it again.

that lesson taught me something so long ago, that we all need to learn.
no matter how good you are, it doesn't mean its good yet.
    or
    everyones an idiot sometime

if someone did this work for you, than maybe they will buy you a new diff,
if you did it, well, i bet you never do it again.
be happy nothing else got damaged.

    and
    happy trails

empty it by the bottom hole. fill it by the top hole.

keep filling till it starts coming out.

i just got a new LSD for $200, and its got fluid in it already (checked this time). however i'm going to drain it and change it anyway and use synthetic instead. its already in the car, so just fill it to the second plug hole in the back off the diff?

That sucks man, hard lesson learned. ALWAYS check the fluid on a part like that before you take it out for a drive!
