Anything else that would be indicative of the s-eta engine? The cylinder head is the same as an "i" (885 cast), correct? Where is this number stamped? Also, all 5 spd transmissions that came on m20 cars were getrag 260's, right? No difference between a 5spd tranny from an eta and a 5spd tranny from an i?

This motor will be going into my convertible as a stroker, so I will be using the intake, throttle body, ecu, etc from the engine that is already in there. I know most strokers are done by people with etas who collect the i parts, but in my case I'm doing it kind of backwards. Is there anything I should look out for? Can I use the cooling system that is already in the convertible (its an 89)?
I thought this set up is really called a 2.7i. I thought the seta stroker setup is when you install the seta pistons in the 2.5i block to bump (stroke) it up to 2.7l, without actually boring the block. I might have the names backwards though.

But whatever it is many have done this. All you need is from the head up of the i, and the ecu. The seta head does a lesser cam and single valve springs (reason why it cant handle high rpms). It also has smaller ports in the intake side, so if I were you I would look for another i head instead of using the seta one and just changing over the springs and cams.

regular eta's had sensors in the bell housing for crank speed, but Motronic 1.1/1.3 cars don't need them so it doesn't matter.
I know for the seta the transmission has a different shift linkage to the i, and it doesnt use the plate like the regular e. I ripped my shift linkage and put in an i one at it moved my shifter foward like if it had a z3 shifter, they are also different part numbers.

I don't know whats up then lol, it says 173 on the ECU in the car, and the for sale ad said it had one in it. I think I have another one in my basement back home so I will try plugging it in and see what happens. As for the valve springs, if a head swap was done, are they swapped to the dual spring or is that all separate and no necessarily done? I know nothing about engines so this was probably a bad car to buy lol.

Plus I am 90% sure there is a 173 in it now.

It has the same head casting, but it has single springs and a different cam.

Sounds like a super eta. It's motronic 1.1 so no issues swapping into the convertible. Super ETA engine's being 88's should have the later style water pump that uses drivers side coolant reservior. Don't forget to swap in the i cam and dual valve springs.
