    clutch pedal question

Normally I would post this under transmission, but I need to figure this out soon...

When I went to start my car today, my clutch pedal was fully depressed to the floor, I started the motor but even with the clutch pedal down I couldn't shift into any gears (the shifter was giving me resistance as if the clutch was't engaged. So I turned off the engine and restarted it in first gear to see if at least the gears were engaging and the car jumped forward, so the transmission is still engaging gears.

As for the clutch pedal, I can move it freely up and down and it will stay wherever I leave it, so whatever mechanism pushes it back up is not working... I pulled off the pedal cover and took a look at the pedal and its connections and I noticed that the little rubber dust cover on what I assume is the hydraulic had a hole in it, and there was a small puddle uder the transmission of a clear viscous fluid.

So what happened here? Did the hydraulic shit out? Is it some connection of the pedal or is it an internal transmission/clutch issue? I'm assuming its just something with the pedal assembly since the transmission can still engage gears.

I have all weekend to work on this if its something I can do myself, if not I can get it towed somewhere to get looked at...

    I'll post some pics tomorrow

    Thanks in advance

crawl under and check the soft line and tighten the connections. See if you can see exactly where the fluid is coming from and go from there

check for leaks/fluid. probably failed clutch master or slave cylinder

Either there's a hole/leak between the slave cylinder and master cylinder or your slave cylinder took a shit on you. Check all the connections, if there's a puddle on the ground, it should be obvious where something is leaking.

I have a similar issue, though not as severe. I believe my clutch master cylinder is weeping fluid. Never realised it until my brake fluid reservoir was on low and my brakes got squishy. There is fluid on the master and on the foam of the plastic cover panel down by the pedal. Let me know what you find, I was about to order this part but am deciding on whether to replace the lines and slave at the same time.

It's not a bad idea to do it all at once. That way you know the slave is new and you won't have to go through bleeding the system again for a while.
