she has asked me what rwd does before, i explained it, (lsd vs. open) but she got confused when i talked about my 4x4 and then i explained that her car was fwd and really 1wd.

and yes, i actually saw a v-6 e30 for sale, and they had no idea what v6 meant.

    also.
consider the future, when the current 1series owners do realise the difference, BMW just may create a new level of enthusiasts.

thinking about it, i wonder if the salesmen even know.
ive been to a few lots, and they don't essentially flow w/knowledge
she says' "no, its got 4wheels". all cute asianlike and i just said "if it stops workind call me"

You gusy are fucking retarded. You do realize that BMW making one new FWD car has nothing to do with all that is RWD awesomeness currently, right?

No they are going to convert all of them! Even the M5!

BMW doesn't care about enthusiasts... at all. They care about selling cars. BMW didn't make the E30 to be some cult car. It became that because it turned out to be so fun.

The 135i is a BLAST to drive. Very e30-like. It is smaller. More nimble. It could lose some weight but it is fun.

Indisputable fact: BMW's sporting image is founded on a RWD- lightweight- overpowered, fuel efficient- balance handling- four cylinder coupe, called the 2002.

imo the cracks started to show in the early 90s for BMW with the release of the E36 (not being an E36 hater right now, even though irl i am). they managed to bring it back with the E46 but the E9x is back to shit. They didnt even try to get back in the 5 and 7 series ranges, with E34 and pflE38 being the last good looking versions respectively.
And just to make matters worse they go and start releasing SUVs and the fucking 1 series. BMW should have left those markets to Mini and Land Rover which they own (at the time in the case of LR) anyway and are still going to make money from them, were also considered the benchmark in thier classes both then and now anyway.

                  Dear BMW
start selling the E24, E30/E46 (you decide), E31, E34 and E38 again. quit being douche-bags selling to douche-bags, and focus on the people that actually got you to the elite status you are currently.
                  Sincerely, Enthusiasts

                    ^

LOL Wut? Outside of the 330i ZHP and E46 M3 the E46 is a snooze fest with a bloated whale. The E36, while it seems to be the most hated chassis on this board, is awesome. Hop into an E36 M3 and tell me the car sucks. Maybe a biased e30 fanboi review will be negative but it is very neutrel. Easy to slide around. Comfy. Not THAT heavy. It is a great car. To say otherwise is just blind bias. The E46? I just fell asleep.

People want NEW stuff. They want it to look new. Why does everyone with an E30/E28/E34 say all the new ones are ugly and suck. They don't suck. No one would drop 40K on a new E30 today except for some really crazy e30 fanbois. BMW doesn't care about enthusiasts. They never did and never will. We make up such a small market share share. They simply don't care. They care about those brand whoring 'douche bags' that you are speaking of. Because they have disposable income and are willing to buy a new 40K plus vehicle.

And everyone that rips on the X5 specifically. I think you just haven't had the chance to really drive one. We purchased a 2004 X5 4.4i and man it is awesome. It is quick. It handles pretty nicely for how large it is. It is super comfy. I find myself trying to pry the keys from the wifey every chance I get. Plus it looks awesome. I was a mild X5 hater... until we really started shopping for them.

                      i agree.

My Old E36 328is drove so nice and was comfty and didn't even feel that heavy, and pulled so hard with 2.8, if i wasn't such an E30 Nutthugger i would of kept it.

I had the same Thoughts about the E36 until i bought one, But You still don't feel conected to the road as when you're driving an E30.

I think that BMW still makes cutting edge engine technology a priority, so in that regard they still cater to the enthusiast. Dinanm3atl is right though, people want new shit. And people, particularly in North America, have all these expectations about interior space and features and luxury bullshit that add hundreds of pounds to a vehicle's weight. Then, you've got all these insurance companies that lobby Washington for more stringent safety regulations that minimize their risk and maximize their profits, adding hundreds MORE pounds. Next thing you know, you've got a powerful, lightweight, high-tech drivetrain lugging around the automotive equivalent of a hippo. If a real demand existed for a reissue of the e30, they'd have to tack on so much shit to make it "up to date" and DOT legal it'd probably be as much or more a yawn to drive than the shit they're pumping out now. Then again, at least it'd still look decent.

BMW is a car company. They make cars, to sell cars.

Ultimately, the consumer will determine which cars get made, and what features they have (or don't have).

Really, all this FWD 1-series and autotragic 'performance' sedan and bloated, bland car talk boils down to something perhaps more tragic: humans (as a whole) are growing more ignorant, lazy, and boring!

So just go for a drive in your car. It still excites you, right?

I thought this said minivans for a sec... It almost made me cry.

This does not surprise me one bit.

I remember when the E30 was first sold in the states. I remember the type folks that had them back when they were new.
I would say the same percentage of E30 buyers back in the day either had no idea of the drivetrain layout, and fewer even gave a shit.
In the U.S. it has always been about the Roundel on the hood, and trunk.

stat may come from CEO but is it true??... it could all be a marketing excuse to why they are introducing FWD models in the first place, although I wouldn't be surprised either if it was indeed true.
