My friend has an '93 325is 5sp with stock motor and a 3.15 open diff. I have an '89 ix with stock motor and 3.91 gears. My question is what would I have to do to the motor, N/A, to be faster than him off the line?

I dunno about comparing the two, but a Chip and/or MAF conversion seems like a good start to more m20 n/a power, depending on your budget.

Maybe you should rephrase the question to "what do I have to do to HIS motor to be faster off the line?"...

I believe the iX takes a half second hit longer getting to 60 (stock, and new) than the i, but it may still be close. Take out your seats and spare.
