    Dammit, spontaneous tach death.

I'll skip the long story, and basically just say out of paranoia today I wanted to run a Coolant Hydrocarbon Tester to check for a weak/dying headgasket. Unable to get a decent enough vacuum to pull through the tester, so that's still an unknown.

Hooked all the lines back up and everything, started up, running like shit won't idle. Turn off, stomp test, AFM code. Double check all connections, they are all good, so I unplug the battery for a minute to reset the computer.

Connect battery, stomp test, no codes, start car idling and revving fine....................except now the Tach is dead. Inspection lights and everything else lighting up, didn't take it on the road to see if the speedo is still working, temp and fuel gauge still working.

    Any ideas?

OK, went and drove around the block. The speed/coolant/fuel still work (my econometer has always been iffy).

But all the inspection lights and the word "Inspection" are all lit up and never have been before.

You and e30's, I feel for ya. I suggest you get a 2004 Impala. It's an upgrade from the last DD.

Yeah, I seem to have terrible luck with these cars.

I still think you need to lower your expectations of a ~19 year old car.

What's it doing, just not responding at all? Mine likes to stick at 2k, then fall dead when I rev it up high, then jump back to 2k.

Fuses 10 and 21 good? Maybe a duh answer here, not sure why all the active check lights would be on if this were the case.

Just completely dead. Only time it responds is after you turn the car off, does that little jump a couple seconds later up to about 700-800 then back down. But it's always done that, so did the last car so I assumed it was normal?

How can I at least get the inspection lights and "INSPECTION" to turn off?

I was planning on doing my first Auto-X next weekend and now my Tach is dead!

HA! Haven't gotten a chance to check the fuses, I'll go outside and do that in a second.

But on the way to work now the windshield wipers starting acting up. If you press "down" on the stalk once for a quick wipe, the wipers will will to vertical then stop, then you have to press it again to get them to go back down.

Same for the first click "up" they stop at horizontal, then you have to take it back to "neutral" then back "up" to get them to go back down.

However, two or three clicks "up" from "neutral" they still seem to be fine.

                      Relay?

For seriousness? Then why does it work at "normal" and "hi" vs the delayed and single wipe settings? That sounds more like a relay, no?

I just find it very strange that this all happened at once.
