Grif, those are 2 of my favorite videos. What do you primarily ride? I'm riding a 42" Landyachtz Chinook with 180 Randals and 75mm Orangatang Durians. Still trying to learn to slide, but I'm getting pretty confident at downhills. This is my brother in law and I doing runs last summer, I got up to 41 mph at one point. I'm the bigger guy on the drop deck, 1st and 3rd runs in the opening are me.

I'm working on getting the safety gear (and the balls) to tackle a big hill near where I live, about 3 miles long with lots of big, sweeping turns.

For everyday fun use I sport a Dervish with randal 180's, and some In Heats. All of my boards have Bones Speed Sixes (which really REALLY make a difference in speed)

For serious speedboarding, I use a Carbon Evo, a set of Nimbus trucks (which my sponsor funded for me, thank god) speed sixes, and usually softer wheels like s9 Forumulas, but my favorite are still In Heats.

I have a lot of boards in between.
You don't have any safety equipment? Buy yourself a full face helmet, and most importantly, lots and LOTS of gloves and pucks if you're serious at all. Gloves only last about 2 rides- unless you want your fingertips to be ripped off, get some finger pucks too.

I want a free board so bad. I need to get my boss to start carrying them at work so I can get a discount!

          P.S. - I work at TheLongboardStore.com

To be honest, I don't understand the appeal of freeboards.
They remind me of ripsticks, grown up ones at least.
You cant go very fast on them, cant do much "freely" on them asside from the spins, you're strapped to them (dangerous!) and they're substantially less stable through turns. You also look like a total dork.

            I just don't get it.
I'd just buy another dervish. ;)

              Helmets are good.

I ate crap doing a pretty high speed slide and got a major concussion a few years ago.

hahah, i was driving to the mountains to go camping. its 181 North, for anyone in NC.

its nuttsier than the hills on any of these videos, and some idiot on a skateboard passed my going downhill at like at least 40. i was so surprised. it was sweet.

i grew up skating, normal deck, and doing tricks, ollying stairs etc.. all i can say is speed wobbles suck. i dont know how these guys do this so fast on such loose trucks.
but my bro started a skateboard deck manufacturing co and we make some prettty sick longboards.
                just thought id share.

Grif, I do wear a helmet any time I go out bombing hills, or riding for long periods of time, I also wear knee pads and usually gloves. I just cut out a set of palm and finger pucks for my gloves, I just need to glue them on. I also found a really cool set of elbow/fore-arm pads that are all one piece, they're made by sixonesix.

I also do not see what's go great about FreeBoards, they seem like a very novelty thing to me. Not much interest in them.

Nice to hear that you stay safe.
I for one don't wear elbow pads, but knees are sometimes necessary. I've built muscle memory on how to fall on my hands and toes so its not a big deal.

Tantalus is ok. Not too fast but it's a pretty cruise ride. Some parts never get old though. And the slick streets are always a risk factor. Makes it all the better.
You can spot me in some shots.

                          Tantalus:
Was in this race last year:

                          Old Pali: (A personal favorite)

                          Pupukea

Aiea S-turn. Seen a LOT of fucked up arms, legs, and boards here.

The technical course next to my house. I literally live 100 yards away from it.: (My favorite)

One day I'll have the balls to bomb Tech Park

Sorry for the flood. I really love skating.

Janderson - you are right about freeboards it's a novelty thing, but it also allows some snowboarders 'feel' like they're still snowboarding in the middle of the summer.
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.
