    E30 Insurance Differences? 318is/325is?

    My company uses "indexes" to determine rates, each car is given a certain rating of several factors, like a car like a Buick very low and sporty Integras high. Higher than my integra was my G20. Higher than that is my 325is.

    My question is for people who have owned and insured both 325is and 318is......are the rates different? The 318is is slower and has far less power so I'm hoping it might.

    TIA

    They consider the 325is to be a sports car right?

    Is it that 4 door cars are cheaper or something?

      G20 = 4door. Integra = 2dr hatchback. G20 has slightly more torque. Who knows why?

      I think that RWD + I6 = $$$$.

      But I really want to see if anyone has personal experience with this situation.

            The biggest thing that will affect your rates is age and sex. Young guys get in more bad wrecks than anyone else. When I first got married, I had a Ford Probe GT - 5 speed, v6, decent power. I had a spotless driving record - no wrecks. My wife had a horrendous record, tickets, four or five accidents, one that totalled two cars. She had a Geo.

            My insurance was outrageous, over 150 a month for full cover. Hers was like 65. The insurance man told us to switch on our policy who drove each car. So we did. The Probe went to 78/month, and the Geo up to 95. Saved us money. So me, 24, clean record no tickets paid double my wife with the record form hell. Why, she was 25 and was a girl.

            As for vehcile ratings, it varies from company to company. Some do it on number of cylinders, others, totally on accident experience. I pay about 40/month for the 325ic right now for full coverage. The IS300 is at close to 90/month for full coverage. I was told by my insurance rep that the IS300 was more than an e46 coupe because more IS300 are driven by young single guys.

            Bottom line, there area number of factors they look at. If you are a guy, under 25 and single, you are going to take it up the ass on insrance, even if you drive a 4 cylinder auto Camry.

              check this shit......

              325ic = 120/month

              M3 = 80 a month

              I think they use diplacement as a factor also.

                My 'is, listed as for "pleasure use" and as a secondary car costs almost as much as my Ti to insure, despite that it's listed as a "full time" vehicle.

                This is why I get on the case of every jackass kid on here that does some street racing bullshit or wrecks his e30, it's you assholes that raise our rates.

                    yeah, that's what I sorta thought. And hopefully Avi is right.

                    Dave, I know you are right, but i can't change my sex or age! So I can only change what car I drive, and it makes quite a difference with my insurance.

                    .....There's a 318is locally and lower insurance + much better gas mileage + comfier ride + second car to ride when one goes down is tempting. I'm considering it.

                              I pay $31.10 a month for liability. My brother paid the exact same on his '91 318i. I'm not sure about 325's, I don't know what my other brother/sister pay to insure their "etas." Most insurance companies (maybe all) consider a 318i/S an economy car (which it is), the rates are pretty low.
