... Really?! That kind of changes it then. Hmmm.

I have loved my eta from day one, but it has a little bit of body damage and I cant justify putting more money in to it. I bought for $800 and have put about $400-500 into it since then. I don't know what to do. :(

Its an everyday battle with the eta because I DD it so I spend a lot of time in it which makes me want to mod. Once you start you can't stop.

That's also another plus of the eta, the mpg. It get's very good mileage for a s6. I am contemplating selling my 325i and getting a 325e instead for a DD.

I've been thinking I want a 318 for awhile now to use as a daily. Alpine late model 4 door with H&R sport springs would be perfect for a DD.

I would only take the m42 over the b27 for DD duty because it's in the late model chassis.

              I really want plastic bumpers.

I feel ya, don't all of us early model owners. Well then there's euros, but I'll take anything besides DB's.

Um, why doesn't the OP put an M42 in the eta? Add Euro bumpers in place of the US bumpers and it will be considerably lighter than a late model 318is.

Gas mileage for me was the same between my 2,430 lb. 2.93 eta and 2,550 lb 4.10 318is. Both were/are excellent cars and are a blast to drive.

I love my 318is. I drive it pretty hard and have a lot of fun without going too fast and getting in trouble. A few of my friends went driving with me yesterday (one guy and his wife rode with me in the 318 and the other guy followed on his crotch rocket) We went and hit some back-road twisties (I guess its called the Devil's Triangle) The guy on the bike was frustrated because he had trouble keeping up with me. I never went very fast, but I was able to take the turns so well that I kept good momentum through all of it. The 318is is very toss-able and enjoyable without having to be very powerful. Mines just a good running stock motor with a good condition stock suspension. While the ETA is probably better on gas, I find the 318 a lot more fun. Also, maintaining the M42 is pretty easy. Get a good 318i or is... fix the mess under the intake, maybe get a mark d chip and enjoy!

Eta can't touch the M42 for FE.

So get an 88 super eta and throw plastic bumpers on it.

I hate to break it to you, but if you beat a motor cycle on a winding road it's because he either doesn't know how to ride or the road was too bumpy for him to actually lean the thing over.

Must be the way an M42 gets driven compared to the eta then. Seemed like when I drove the eta I got consistent 30mpg+... while I get mid 20s city to close to 30 hwy on the M42. But I have a ton more fun in the M42 while I putted around like an old lady in the eta. I agree that the M42 is the way to go!
