i used to have a eta, i had tons of fun with it. i did burn outs everytime i stopped in that car, jumped rail road tracks multiple times, stayed above 3500rpms(lol @ that redline) the entire time i drove it. 373 gears in a eta make them really fun. the fun thing about an eta is its a tank. we tryed to kill that car, and couldn't.

the 318, while still very fun, is more like a olimpic runner. short power band, sounds amazing at 6700+ rpms, 1-2 drifts are fun in these cars as well. i can drift the shit out of a 318, 325's (or mine atleast) seemed more sudden and violent when oversteering.

that being said, i love my 318, and i sold the eta. both fun cars, but i think that you get more for your money with a 91 318.

Definitely more for your money with the 318, but the eta, has, 4500 rpm limiter. Makes you feel like you're driving a diesel.

I really do miss the tq of the eta's, my 325i just feels so underpowered, but that could be due to the 20 year old motor in the car...

I spent some time with teh eta this afternoon, I gave it a good bath and a wax. It feels so good to wax an E30. :pimp:

Gas mileage for me was the same between my 2,430 lb. 2.93 eta and 2,550 lb 4.10 318is. Both were/are excellent cars and are a blast to drive.
There is no way I could ever justify a motor swap in my $800 eta. It runs great and a side from some minor-ish body damage its pretty clean.

If anything I would put a 2.5i head on it and finally be able to r3v! Its only a matter of time before I pull the trigger on some new springs, struts, wheels and tires.

You just used like every r3v-ism ever there.

And FYI: r3ving your car is not a good thing.

The m42 is a special motor for some reason. It's all I need to get around town and even across the country. I'd eventually like to chip mine and get a bit more out of the motor, but changing timing chains/guides and the clutch is more important at this point. There's just something about the exhaust note at higher rpms that makes my spine tingle and not want to let off the gas.

But then the 86 eta I just picked up is a blast, too. Bought it (and road tripped it 20hrs home, it was a great misadventure) for the sole purpose of a motor swap, just haven't gotten around to pulling out the b27 yet. I was surprised how much torque I had to play with and how well it ran, considering it sat for months before i got it.

haha I'm not sure I understand this one....you either had a really strong eta or have a really weak i.

BTW my M42 will be getting a turbo soon and is currently running Megasquirt. For some reason I have a thing for the 4 banger, but it's very difficult to get power out of.

Dude, if you can't justify having another car. Just do the 327i. Trust me. I did it...and it was soooooooooo worth the money. Felt a difference between the supereta --> 327i. Then when I put the 373 LSD. Omg! If ur not satisfied with ur eta, do that. Pull the a/c and tar in the back, modify some plastic bumpers to fit. And i think you'll be happier.

Thanks for words of encouragement. I need to STOP trying to buy cars and just play with the ones I have. ;)

Im going to get a chip, hopefully that will tide me over for a little while.

Are there retro-fit DIYs for plastic bumpers on to pre 88 E30s? I thought you could only swap them onto 88 +...
