I found this '85 BMW 735 the the local pick-n-pull earlier today. It's a good example of how not to restore a car or attempt to fix body after an accident. I have never seen anything so half-assed. Have a look...
I saw an even better one at that very same yard two or maybe three years ago.
I should have snapped a picture but it was a green 2002 and someone had attempted to repair the rockers. The only bracing they put in was a small 1/2'' or 3/4'' piece of sqauretubing TACK WELDED across the middle of the door frame.
They cut the rocker out and the tacks broke and the passenger side was "folded" slightly. I guess at that point they just gave up.
yeah, that's what happens when major projects are attempted without a good plan.
I'm surprised at the gauge of steel on that car though. I had trouble with burning through thin metal panels on my e30 even at the lowest power on my MIG. Tack welds were easy, but stitch welding was not.
i have totaled several cars that have come in for collision repair like that. that is pretty much the quality of the work done at the buy here pay here lots around here. they are not willing to pay for a propper repair to keep the profits high so the hack it and put it on the street.
