New parts truck - 1981 VW Caddy (Rabbit Pickup)

I've owned a few Rabbits, and the caddy was my favorite by far. It had a souped GTI drivetrain and sport suspension and was unbelievably quick. Unfortunately it also had a leaky aftermarket glass roof and a ridiculous metallic purple paint job.

The guy I got it from "custom-built" them. Debating whether or not to keep them when I get it painted.

I don't know about them being the best part about the whole vehicle, but they were definitely nice. Can't say I've seen too many NASCAR/Dale Jr. bumper stickers on German vehicles before!

No hard feelings, I really like his build and it's motivation for my restore.

Started tearing her apart to get her ready for a mild restore. I've sourced some rust-free fenders, doors, and a-pillars. Should be a fun project to hold me over till I decide what to do to my e30 next.

they were pretty sweet. but the whole thing screams hipster. it was just missing an apple decal.

I'm really looking forward to getting this project started. It's my first project that involves some heavy bodywork/welding. I plan on keeping some sort of restore log, so everyone can see the progress. I'm still trying to figure out how much I'm willing to spend on this project though. I have to admit, I'm really starting to like this little Caddy.

You know, I never knew VW sold a pickup. But I'm glad I found this one on the side of the road. It's got a shit ton of rust, but with some time and some welding, I can get her looking new again. I was able to pick up two doors, two fenders, and both a-pillars, all rust-free, today for $180. That takes care of 75% of the rust on this truck. I'm really looking forward to getting her back on the road.
