    Pictures of custom exhaust

    Hi all.
I'm going to build a custom exhaust when doing my S50 swap, but I'm not sure on the resonator choice. How much room do I have for a resonator?

I'm going to run 2x2.5" black steel with stainless silencers. I have considered to have two separate round silencers on 40cm under the car. They are 12cm in diameter.

So they who got resonated custom exhaust, how thick are the resonator section?
My car is lowered pretty much.

    Thanks

what good does that do him? it shows a pics just looking at the muffler.

reading his post it sounds like he wants pics UNDER the car to see how much clearance he has with certain resonator set ups people have used in the past.

That link is to 17 pages of exactly what he asked for with the exact engine he is using.....

i used a magna flow 2 1/2" dual in/out for a resonator in my car with a 2.7 stroker ITB's etc etc no cat and a stromg catback. it was too buzzy with 2 cherry bomb glass packs that i tried first so i went with the small muffler next and love it. the muffler is smallenough to fit in the channel where cat section usually goes with a cat if you put it towards the rear part of the section. nice sound, not buzzy, quiet-ish until you get on it.

i need to remake it because when i did it i ran out of gas for my mig (so the welds look like crap and i had to use some less than optimal bends just to get it back together so i could get it back together.

when i get to my desk top i will add the partnumber to the post so you can check out the deminsions.

So, the E36M3 bits WILL fit the E30! Then I can just buy a E36M3 sport exhaust or at least a cat back and make the rest my self.

I have a couple of shots from custom exhaust, but most do not run silencer or resonator under the car. Only a rear silencer.

what's the obsession around here with dual 2.5"? Do a single 3" and be done with it, cheaper and lighter than dual pipes, and there's no performance or sound difference.

I have been thinking about it I must say. I want that deep sound, not a raspy thin sound like most of the E36M3's in fact got.
If I go single 3" I will not be needed to fabric a X-pipe and I will only need one oval resonator under the car and not two round which is my other option.

I would do a second muffler instead of a resonator, shouldn't be raspy at all. It also actually helps if you have a cat soon after the merge between the headers. Just stay away from ceramic ones.

I don't run cats, that is not needed and steals 5hp as well. As my car is a non cat car stock, I don't have to use cat on the S50.
Well, it will be a second muffler. I just mix the two of them.

I have a small love for the sound that is in the SS Race exhaust, but that is very loud and I may not be able to use the car on some tracks. With the S50B32 euro engine off course ;)

do the 2 muffler route. i love the way mine sounds, agressive and throaty when i get on it, but no drone at cruse and a nice low rumble at idle with the 292* cam.

when i had my jetta with no cat and 2 mufflers (1 resonator and 1 muffler) i ended up running a glasspack in a straight section to knock out the raspberry sound when accelerating. it also sounded great with the big cam set i had in it.

Do you got a sound clip?

I have been looking at this setup for a while, looks like custom silencers though.
