I kinda regret selling my mkiv gti (i know i know mkiv= lame lol), I searched for 2 years for one and bought the first one i found (bad idea). I had to sell it because I could barely make payments after only owning it for 1.5 years. Plus the kid who bought it is a douchebag. He killed it right away, then started in 3rd and didn't believe me when i tried to correct him, and then beat on it during the first test drive.
When we sold our '97 Suzuki Sidekick JLX Sport. That thing was fucking awesome. It was gutless up hills, but around town, it was like a lifted go-kart. Handled awesome, got killer gas mileage, and didn't even do too bad when I took it out wheeling. We sold it because my wife started a daycare, and needed a minivan to be able to haul all of the kids around in. Laugh if you want, this little thing was a kick in the ass to drive.
And no, we don't have a minivan anymore. Sold that hunk of shit and got a '99 Volvo V70 XC. Turbos kick ass.
You want to feel bad about getting rid of your car? Here's the perfect recipy:
Blow your motor
Part out your car
Cut the shell in half and junk it
Swap most of it into a new shell
(Extra points if your car has been in your family for ages, or purchased brand new in April of '89)
Then after all is said and done, a week after, well before you even finish putting the new car together, but well past the point of no return, watch the movie "Love the Beast".
You'll be crying yourself to sleep in regret for at least a good two weeks.
Selling my E30 was emotional, but I don't regret it.
I also don't really regret parting out my RS Turbo Subaru, but it was heart-breaking for me in some ways. Having taken it from being broken, unreliable, completely fucked and rebuilding it - several times - and fixing the whole damn car with new parts, making great friends along the way, I pulled it apart and used the money made to buy a house. Many of the parts I sold, I sold off cheap to friends who'd helped with the build as my way of thanking them for the late nights, my whinging, and their support. It was a bit of an infamous car in the RS Turbo circle before I owned it, and quite a few people laughed at me for buying such a fucked example, but they stopped laughing when they saw its spec list in its ultimate incarnation, and definitely didn't laugh when they saw how damn fast it was.
Watching the bare shell be skull dragged onto the driveway by the scrap metal dealer was hard, but then I am happy to admit I teared up a little when he ran the crane's arm through the roof and crushed the shell tying it down. It was the end of an era for me and even though my new E30 will be ultimately faster, i feel that "it isn't the RS". It's good - but different.
