    Tips on/about ze Fatherland...

I posted a thread up in the Europe regional subforum, but since four or five members actually know of its existence it isn't generating any useful information.

The business school at the University I'm at is going on a three-week study abroad trip to Germany, Poland, and Luxembourg between 6 June and 27 June. We'll be touring a few facilities (BMW Leipzig, Porsche Leipzig, etc.) but we're also going to have a few days off to ourselves to do whatever. A Nürburgring trip is mandatory, and will happen at some point. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what I should do or where I should go while I'm there; and if any of the Euro members over there want to meet up, that'd be nice too. I'll be in three different cities for roughly a week at a time (Bamberg, Berlin, Trier) and I understand Trier is about an hour away from the 'Ring. So if anyone has any advice or information on events going on around that time span, it'd be much appreciated.

    Cheers.

A quick google search resulted in this website.

      Remember, their dates go day/mo/year

Yeah, I've been on the site already. This thread was more about getting some tips on events going on around that date (6-27 June) and seeing if any members in that area wanted to get together at some point and show the guy who can't speak very much German around.

I did find out today that I will be in Trier between 13-19 June, so if any EU members are planning a get together or Nürburgring stop, I'd love to hear about it.

Sorry - no info to share. But if you get to the ring, be sure to get some video or still shots. Have fun.

If you can, Heidelburg is definitely my favorite town in Germany.
I used to live about 30 minutes away from it, in Kaiserslaughtern. (and Wiesbaden is 30 minutes from K-town)

If anything, at least visit Munich. (and the BMW museum, which is amazing. Also, take the factory tour.)
            My car eats bentley manuals.

+1 to all of this. I really liked Heidelburg for the Yufka Kebap. Get one. (it's a food)
Eat Kebaps every day. They're like crack, but not illegal.

Another really cool town to visit (don't know how mobile you are, but if you're planning a trip to the Ring, must be moderately mobile) is Reims, in France.
Wow, I went there like three times, and saw something different every time. It was so neat. (minus the Frogs, of course)

One more piece of advice: Be careful at the Ring. Just driving it is expensive, if you screw up, it can be a wallet breaker. I only passed 1 (one) car, in 5 laps. (okay, two, but only after he took an excursion into the grass after drifting past me on a corner, his fault)
... and I gotta tell you, the first couple laps, I was scared to death. You gotta drive out of your rear view mirror, unless your Hans Stuck or something, and you have a track machine in your own private on-track garage... It's intense, and the only thing that a zillion laps on GT4 is gonna do is make you mildly familiar with the turns.

Yeah, I'll surely be going to the Nürburgring, but driving on it might be another story. I haven't even shopped around for rental vehicles, and I'm not even sure a 21-year-old would be able to get one in the first place. I imagine I'll be so overwhelmed by the sights/surroundings, that driving on the Nordschleife would probably be something better to do the next time around. I certainly wouldn't turn down the oppotunity to ride around the 'Ring, but driving it will likely be for another day. That said, if any members near that area want to make a run of the course at some point between 13 June and 19 June, I'd love to ride shotgun.

Thanks for the tips though, keep'em coming, this thread may become useful to others with similar questions.
