    This is the way!

Bought two crashed E30's, bought two dead e30's. Transferred parts in a logical manner and sold off enough of the extras to net out with two sweet, clean well running e30s for $0. Actually came out better than zero... ;)
How about some pics of the pair?

i bought my modded 91 325i 5 years ago with around150Kon it. other than regular maintainence, wear items and correcting the PO's hacking with the piggy back, i have not had to sink tonns of money into it other than any modding i have done myself.

money pit in as far as i will NEVER get back the money i have put into it modding it or the purchase price, but i like the car and it fits my tastes and needs.

buy a new 335i for 50,000 and have outragous payments everymonth- and after 5 years it isnt even worth 10,000-- now thats another form of moneypit!
i see it as 1000 bucks a year in maint for an e30 is nothing compared to a car payment of 350+ a month.

          What he said...

Look at it this way. You may have to R and R your e30. But...

Do you have a payment of 300-600 a month for some new piece of shit that will be depreciated to 6k when you get it paid off. NO

Do you have to carry full coverage insurance. NO. Liability is only about 30.00 a month for e30's. Full coverage on a new one. Around 150.00, at least.

Do your math. How much do you spend a month on a e30? EVERY month? Anywhere NEAR 800.00? Cause thats what any new car your going to drive is going to cost you.

          e30... a money pit.....????? Naw

You need to change your perspective, not your car.

All the sports cars I have owned have been money pits except for a 95 tsi former auto X car which I bought for dirt cheap with a blown tranny and clutch. After 2grand a lot of time and some tinkering it was a sweet ass car for 3.5 grand.

For a performance platform the e30 is not too bad, you can get some cheap performance out of it. For a nice DD or baller status car you may want to get something newer.

I find motorcycles hold value much better, I've flipped bikes for 3X the amount I've paid for them.

Kids are money pits, not E30's.

Who is talking about sports cars or collector cars? The thread is about e30's.

It all depends really, I bought a well maintained eta with bad paint for $800 drove it for 65k miles with routine maintenance, a used driveshaft and a couple other random things. The state paid me a grand for it and I was able to strip and sell pretty much all the parts which were worth anything.

WHAT, siggy you telling me you spent $0 after everything was said and done on all those e30s I saw in your driveway when I came to pick up the LSD? DAMN! Now that takes some skill, nice job.

This is what I plan on doing. I plan on getting a DD for really cheap and going for max MPG

I wouldn't call my car a money pit, I just spend wayyyy too much money on it. I have five sets of wheels and two sets I can't even use because they're 4-lug.

                      '91 318is - OBD-II S52 swapped - E30 M3 5-lug - 5x120 BBS RC090 (E39 Style 5) - TCK D/A coilovers 550/700 [SOLD]
                      '87 535i - Vacuum brake conversion [SOLD]
                      '93 525iT - 5-speed swap - 320k and counting
                      '09 328xi - 6-speed

I dont have a money pit because I do all the labor myself, find used parts, compare prices on different websites, etc. If I paid someone to work on my car I would end up getting raped.

I would have to say if you fix your own car, than its cheap. If you pay someone to fix it for you, its a money pit.
