    money pit?

I've been daily-driving E30's for 3 years now, and all 3 of them have been heinous money pits. Is that normal?

            No, I think not.

Maybe it depends...$12,000 for a new Kia or whatever, vs a $12K E30 build?

Mine has been cheaper than any other $1,000 car I have ever bought, but I do swap a lot of used parts...and it does need some major lovin right now.

Yes they are all money pits and they're highly addictive. I'm already onto E30 #4 considering i bought my first one in 2007 lol

money pit? not if you dont modify everything. since ive owned the car (7 years, from 140k miles - 200k miles) only these things went wrong (beyond normal maintenance items that wear out on every car):

                dead alternator
                dead clutch cylinders
                frame rust repair
                3x coolant hose breaks
                dead OBC light

now (@200k+ miles) i have running issues with the m20, but before it was dirt cheap.

I prefer the term money pile, you see no matter how much time and money goes into my ride it still looks like a pile.
                  Jah bless! :pimp:

True but how many of us on here don't modify things?

a money pit is a 1955 Bel Air restoration going on in Germany-- thats a damnn moneypit!

I have quite a bit in my M3 but dont concider it a money pit

buy a new 335i for 50,000 and have outragous payments everymonth- and after 5 years it isnt even worth 10,000-- now thats another form of moneypit!
i see it as 1000 bucks a year in maint for an e30 is nothing compared to a car payment of 350+ a month.

For one, what sports car, collectors car is not a money pile!

The good part is you can always part it out and gamble for your money back if it comes to that!

The smartest thing I did is buy a $100 89i for a parts car!

Bought my '90 DD 3.5 years ago @ 250k miles for $750. 73k mikes later and it's the most reliable, cheapest to run car I've ever owned. Once these cars are are caught up on maintenance and wear items they're pretty bulletproof.
