I have a noob question about the oil light. The oil light on the dash is when the oil level is low right?
What about the engine oil light up by the rear view mirror on the check panel?

My check panel light came on yesterday, but my oil level is fine. Could it be the oil pressure? Maybe my oil pump is going.

the one on the dash is your oil pressure light..... i wouldn't run the car if thats on unless you want to blow it up. the one by the review mirror is oil level.

I checked the oil level. It's good. Do you think my sensor is bad?

A friend of mine has a junk yard and we wanted to see what a Golf MK1 1.8 would take. We drained all of the coolant and it ran fine (idle + high revs), it didn't even overheat much. So when that got boring, we poured a liter of mineral water in the oil, revved the hell out of it. It kept going for 12 minutes at 5000 rpm til it seized, and I think that's pretty amazing considering the water was 1/5th the oil capacity. The revs translate to about 180km/h for 12 minutes = 36kms or about 20 miles.

Oh and the next morning he started it up for a while.

I had a 90 taurus wagon as my first car, I was so sick of it and my parents would let me get a new car till that one quit( I had money saved, they were not paying for the new one). So i drained the oil and coolant out of it and drove it. It got me back and forth to school for 3 days, 6 miles each way. Then it seized. My dad yelled at me for not keeping track of the fluids and such and filled it back up and drove it home. It lasted for another year...I f'ing hated that car.

One day another buddy and I borrowed it and decided to check the fluids. Same story... it needed 3+ quarts of oil, and 1+ quart of tranny fluid. The only reason it had water in it was because she overheated it and boiled the water out on an almost daily basis, so she was pretty good about filling it back up and all. She later moved on to a Chrysler Turbo Lebaron convertible, but it didn't last as long.
dude, slant 6's were awesome. funky design but bulletproof - they were originally designed to be made out of aluminum but they only built a few of those (high costs in the 60s I'm guessing). They used the same mold for the cast iron blocks - they're indestructible. they're also torquey as hell.. always wanted to do a late '60s dart with a 225 slant six and a huge turbo.

OK we checked it today... it fucken started, didnt overheat, and it wasnt leaking coolant. The oil doesnt have coolant in it, but its still missing. wtf? It was fucking running!! It made some noise but it was more lik valve noise. The knocking noise is gone. I respected the M30 as BMWs MOST bulletproof engine aside from the M10, but this amazed me.....
