i dont know how bad the 5-0 are in cali, but out here theyre really lax because its all about white powa and glass packed v8's. my car is quiet in comparison :)
yeah pretty much any aftermarket exhaust attracts cops over here
QFT.
I have a Stromung cat-back and I've been pulled over twice and let go with warnings. I know B&B TriFlo guys have it worse....those make quite the noise.

Wow, Cali must suck. I drove around with basicly open headers on my Firehawk before it blew up and cops didn't even look twice. Same way with my Corvair, its practically open headers also.

Reason: ...
Cali cops cant do shit about exhaust sound really. The law is set in decibles, and it is set so high that its pretty much impossible to reach. I have had a few friends fight tickets for it and won with ease.
CCW- when every second counts... The police are just minutes away!

The cops are limited with what they can do....my experiences of "warnings" was probably just to give them something to do on a slow day. But there is no doubt that the explosion of the import tuning scene which ushered in sewer pipe sized exhaust tips and the obnoxious rasp of the fart can muffler has prompted the authorities to be on the look out for "illegal" set ups. In Cali that doesn't mean just sound levels, but a lack of catalytic converter can get you cited as well. Clues like carbon build up on the rear bumper by the exhaust exit or the smell of a rich mixture can give them reason to check your system for violations.

My cars pretty loud with the exhaust and intake, any time I take it over 3k rpms I fall in love with it. At about the 3k the intake gets super deep and growly and then the exhaust gets a little raspy. Perfect combo of loud:) just wish their was a little holset in the mix.

Got any sound clips of the Corvair?

My rusted out OEM muffler is just the right level of sound with a great tone. I have been meaning to replace it but I just cant get myself to do it. It is whisper quite for cruising and is very sporty wide open. I have also ran an E30 with just the cat and I think it is just too loud and a little too much resonance , IMO.
