    My MK1 can haz... melted?! =,(

    So last week I took the dub to lexington. On the way back to Gtown the car died, I popped it back into 4th and tried to get it to pop start. Well the wheels locked up and the car didn't even try to start. I kicked the clutch back in and pulled off to the side of the road. The car wouldn't start for anything so I had to have it towed, which just Fucked up my lip even more. Well anyways heres what I saw when I pulled the valve cover. Odd part is the car was running just fine up untill it died.



    Heres something fucked up, those missing head studs broke the head, and both studs, the part of broken head and the whole part covering the cam are all gone, just gone. nowhere to be found and no real damage anywhere showing where they went. So the head is fucked, and the bottom end is more then likely gone too. So I'll soon be in the market for a new engine, anyone semi local with a cheap 2.slow 16v hit me up.

                          Looks to me like you screwed something up, and dont know what the insides of those engines look like. Some of the 8v heads had 5 cam caps, some had 4, as seen in this picture.

                          It looks to me like you poured something in the engine that wasnt oil, because it would take a lot of heat to melt that splash gaurd that covers the cam, and that looks like some sort of chemical melted the plastic, not heat. Not to mention the place that melted is directly under the oil filler for that engine.


                          Id be willing to bet there is a liquid in your oil pan that isn't oil.

                            Nothing has gone into the oil since I have gotten the car. I did an oil change when I got it home and since then only 10w40 oil has gone in that cap. The car was also running within normal temp when it died. The head had 5 sets of studs holding the cam in. Now that I have been able to break that crap off there you can see where the head is broken. The broken part of the head, the two studs, and the cap are all gone. There is no real damage inside the head to show what might have happened to them and the car was running strong right up untill it quit.
