    Some quick help please

Ok as some of you know I bought mischief3003's car. I towed it to my house and finished putting the intake gaskets on, then put everything back together and started it. When I turned it over to my surprise it fired right up and jumped to about 2k rpm's. Then it did exactly as he said it would and it died almost as if I turned it off or the battery cable was pulled or something. When it is running for those few seconds it sounds good like everything firing right it just won't stop and idle when the rpm's drop. Does anyone have a clue? I have another car that I can swap some parts off but it's a half an hour or so from my house/tools I don't want to rip the whole top end off a motor is I don't have to. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

After playing with a few parts and starting it a few more times I can hear the car die and right after the fuel pump turns off. I realize this could be nothing but I just wanted to put it out there. I think im going to start with the basics off the parts car like ecu, afm, icv, baro and anything else that I have tools for that looks suiting.

I know before doing a compression test, I pulled fuse 11 to kill power to the fuel pump while engine was running. (done on purpose to discontinue fuel delivery and empty fuel rail)

After pulling the fuse, the engine immediately began to drop rpms over the course of like ~8-10 seconds before dying. If that's similar to what you experience, I'd first look into the fuel pump.

I dont think its the fuel pump I jumped the fuel pump relay and it sounded fine. I also did the squeeze test on the fuel line and it was builing pressure. And its not like it starts and stumbles down it literally fires right up revs up to 1500 to 2000 rpm then just cuts out like it lost all power.

I wish I could help you more man. I tried swapping out the ecu, icv, crank sensors, and afm with used ones but no change. Good luck with it man, I know you'll take good care of her. Let me know what it was when you get it running again.

This problem began after I cleaned out the icv, afm, and throttle body with throttle body cleaner. Its got to be something stupid.

Heres the thing I swapped the Icv, afm and throttle body with one from a different car and nothing has changed. I really am starting to think there is something wrong electrically. I was actually gonna go out today and bypass the ignition switch to see if mabey there is a bad connection inside. Can anyone tell me why thats not the culprit, or give me anything else to check.

Have you tried changing the fuel filter? Maybe you have good pressure to start, but then it drops off as no fuel gets to the injectors. Could also be the FPR too. It doesn't sound electrical to me as you are able to start the car every time.

I havnt thought about the filter it looks new and he says its new. I changed the fpr with the one off my i. Im going to get a fuel pressure tester today. And I guess I could clarify it dosnt fire right up each and everytime sometimes you gotta crank it a bit but Ive just been thinking this would be from wet plugs. Ill try to get a video so yall can see.

Ok so I put a fuel pressure tester on the car and its reading aound 36-37 like it should. But after this I realized that the gauge holds pressure so how do I check fuel pressure while the car is cranking if it holds pressure?

Scratch that last thought Im dumb. But on a side note I forgot to plug in the return line to my fpr and the car actually started and idled for a sec then I realized what I did and turned it off. So any good ideas to unclog a return line?

                        Replace it.

Your probably flooding the car with the clogged return line. Not sure about that but it sounds very logical.

Well I actually got another hose hooked it up to the return side and down to a fuel can and it did the same thing but then I noticed that the fpr was leaking at the rail so I took it off and realized the bolt holes were both stripped. So today Im going to steal the intake, fuel rail, and injectors off of the parts car. Then do a poor man flow test by giving the injectors fuel and power with them removed from the car while cranking to see how they spray and if they leak.

I swapped the intake fuel rail and all with no luck.

Check your ignition coil. Swap it with a known working one.
