    Suede Dash

Anyone done it? I have a spare and some suede. Was thinking about tackling it as a side project.

...sounds like a nightmare to keep clean. Still awesome though I'm sure.

microfiber sounds sweet. With batting/foam? Nice and soft...

What would the process be? adhesives? Would i need a sewing machine?

Anyway, I am finally getting around to install the newly recovered leather dash. I bought a spare early Euro dash from Bert, fixed the cracks in it, deleted the recess on the passenger side and had the whole thing covered in nice and soft (and expensive) black leather with visible seams in French stitching to match the rest of the interior parts.

Here are some photos, looks worse then it is:

It took about 1 1/2 hrs to disassemble the dash, label and package all the parts and prepare for cleaning. This is the result:

I used an ABS overlay before to hide the severely cracked dash. My personal opinion, don't waste your money! They don't fit right, look like a cheap fix afterward and melt in the sun, even with a dash mat.
This is how it looked before removal, used less the a year:

These are the leftovers after removal from the original dash:

The overlay didn't help the original dash either, it sure did not look this bad before it was covered with it. There were some smaller cracks, nothing this severe:

Anyway, here are some pictures of the new leather dash before installation. Still have to install the vent channel inside and clean up some stuff in the car, install some new foam for sealing...

                          Later,

How do you even find leather that won't fade in the sun? I assume it gets treated?

^^Man, I don't know either.. You'd better have a sun deflector for the windshield with you at all times and keep the car in the garage if you want to keep a leather dash nice. I service several M5/6's, L6's and L7 cars with extended leather and the ones that haven't had their dashes meticulously maintained are a mess.
