Looks to me like everyone is running all kinds of oil types just fine and that I might be a good investment to get the ZDDP additive.

It's most generally not recommended to switch to a diesel oil once the engine has a good amount of time/mileage on it. If you use the diesel oil after running conventional oil for a certain period, the extra detergents will remove the carbon build up causing engine problems. If the internals have recently been cleaned and spec'd, then you are good.
That's just the general concensus.-tim

For those who don't have a bentley manual. As you can see 10w30 is really best for temperatures under 40, so leave that for the winter. However I used 10w30 for a couple years and it did pretty well but it did leak.West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

Mobil1 Recommends using their special oil that is pretty pricey just like Bosch recommends using +4 Platinum Spark Plugs! They're just trying to get you to buy their most expensive product.
Anyone ever used LUBROMOLY? I've got a jug that I'm going to use next oil change, I mainly just wanted some German oil but it is probably not worth the money.West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.

The only thing I have seen this happen on was a beat to death 250k mile yota minivan with a old 2.2 in it. that was swapped to syn the thing hemorrhaged from every seal know to man.
Guys stop bitching about how much you oil service cost in supply's. Its cheap compared to a failure, an leaving you stranded some where. My truck is well over a 150 bucks to service, Oil is 44 a Gallon and the crank case takes 2 1/2 gallons, filter is 21, Fuel filter is 45, Air filter is 36ish trans Spin on filter is 42 from the dealer, but I get mine through Allison for 14, grease is cheap so I dont count that. I service everything at 7500 mile intervals unless I have a lot of heavy towing on that service. Could I do it cheaper sure I could, but then I would compromising quality of materials and supplies, and thats something I am not willing to do as my truck has to be 100% reliable and work in even the most severe conditions. Your vehicle is only as good as you take of it, and as good the materials that you use. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and the same goes for your maintenance materials.
Dont get me started on the tranny, that was expensive as well, but trans temps even in the dead of summer with a heavy load on still never get over 180* with just a fluid upgrade (100% Syn, Transyd made by castrol for Allison) total swap out. and also get 10-12% better fuel economy when empty.Last edited by mrsleeve; 05-12-2010, 02:14 PM.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
