Screw it, I'm keeping it. 325i Bronzit

Even though I'm relatively new here, some of you probably know I bought an '87 325i, 4dr automatic, Bronzit/Black.

The car turned out to have more problems than I could handle. So I've been trying to A) contact the man who sold it to me and return it, or B) sell it to someone else at a small loss.

Well, as it turns out, the seller is on his way to jail, for a collection of small crimes and misdemeanors, resisting arrest, and not showing for court. I will be posting threads about this man on every BMW site across the globe, so nobody will make the same mistake I made, and when he gets out of jail, he will never work on BMW's again.

I've also had a hard time selling it, even for really cheap, because nobody seems to want to put the work into it.

So Screw it. I'm keeping it.

My Plan is to fix it up over the summer, get as much done, and sell it at either a small profit, or at least break even. There is a beautiful 325ix I have my eye on, and that will hopefully be still available in the fall.

    I got a 3 point plan:
A: The car is over at my local mechanic's as we speak. He is replacing the
    -Thermostat,
    -Clutch Fan
    -Front Struts
    -Power Steering Pump
-Exhaust mounts (and eventually, a new exhaust)
    -Brake Pads.

This should take care of most of the mechanical and drivability issues. The engine is in good shape. The valves have been recently readjusted, as was the timing belt changed, and the head is rather new as well.

B: Take care of the small things myself.
-Repair the rip on the driver's seat
    -Polish all the chrome
-Fill in the browned window seals, (that so many early model e30's have)
-Polish bumbers and trim, dash and steering wheel
    -Replace the stereo head unit
-Replace the cover under the steering wheel
-Replace random screws and bolts that have gone missing or stripped.
-Change the bulbs on instrument cluster
    etc.

C: Take the car to a trusted source, and forum member, to handle everything else.
    -Driver door lock
    -Window Switches
    -Body work and dents
    -Front valence
    -Wheel well repair
    -fuses
    -Wiper motor,
    etc. etc.

In the end, the car should be in perfect mechanical condition, and pretty good body. The only thing I may skip is the paintjob. Unless all it needs is come new clearcoat, which I'll do.

So, thanks for reading. I will DEFINITELY be on this forum hardcore over the summer as I will be needing a lot of advice for pretty much every step of the way.

Thank you, and God Bless America, and may God have mercy on your souls.

Hey StereoInstaller. Just going on your screen name, I take it you might be the guy to recommend a good head unit.

I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just something decent and simple. Under $100, and no silly flashing blue lights. Something elegant sounding and looking.

                Any suggestions?

Oh, and by the way, your little animated flash thingy? the one where the guy bashes his head onto the computer? Yeah, um, that's real cute and all, but everytime I scroll past it, it freezes, like every computer in the country

Well, I like how it matches the other dash light colors. But yes, like you said. Gaudy. Plus too expensive.

You know what I would REALLY like??? A factory BMW head unit. I'm talkin' cassette player. You got one of those lyin' around? I'll take it off your hands.

(I acutally listen to a lot of old Howard Stern Shows on cassette tapes.

The only 1 I have right now is a "4,000 mile condition" "slider" deck out of a '91 318iS. I am trying to find a broken changer so I can determine what I have to do to light up the changer input...all I want is an AUX input!

I am gonna feed my navigation system into the stock deck....one of these days!

Figure it will be worth $1,500 when are done with all of that work. Any rust issues?

No rust. Just the muffler. And where the 2 dents are, and the paint has chipped off, it's a liitle rusted there too. Minor surface.

I'd hope to get more than $1500 once I'm done with it.
