    Adjustable control arm mounts

I just spotted this on German Ebay - seems like a great idea. Similar concept to Treehouse Racing's eyeball arms.

That would be great on a racecar but those sockets will wear quickly from vibration and get play.
    Im now E30less.

I don't think so - same type of technology is used in your tie rods. The loads are probably different though.

I would also imagine the loads being less on that section of the control arm than on the tie rods.

Have you opened up a tie rod end? Its a greased ball joint. Those are hard plastic open to the elements. Those will go to shit quickly like that.

I know because we have used end links like that for years on my friends Renegade and they are great short-term but wear out like a bitch, the plastic cracks and falls out. Its OK though since its strictly for off-roading. After one summer though you can hear the brass on brass clacking from the liner disintegrating.

Easy tiger - yes I have opened a tie rod.

I thought you were talking about the threaded component - are you talking about the heim joint? I guess it depends on the quality of the heim joint - my friend has some heim jointed rear control arms on his Cooper S for a couple of year now without any issues - I believe his are teflon lined.
