how do i adjust my windows to retract all the way?

i posted in the tech section already, with no useful answers, so maybe since there's more traffic here someone can help; i've got my door panels off to lube the locking mechanisms & install some black door pulls & map pockets, and i figured while they're out i should tackle this as well since it bugs me. on both sides the windows stop with about 1/2-1 inch of glass still above the seal. how do i adjust the brackets/sliders so they go all the way down? it's annoying when i try to put my arm on the window sill.

Sounds like your regulator might be tweaked a little? Does your passenger window do the samething?

I don't think you can. Mine do the same. I think it's a bmw design thing.

yeah i've been in other e30's that they went down all the way as well. i find it hard to believe that they would overlook something like this. afaik, most tracks are adjustable.

this "feature" really bothers me...i like to rest my arm on the window sill and this makes it sort of uncomfortable.

Change to late style doors or regulators. The early model doors have the 'cable' regulators and the late model doors have the 'scissor' regulators. The late model scissor regulators put the window all the way down into the frame of the door. I dont think its a bolt on deal with changing over the style of regulator, will require some modification.

Same here. They don't go all the way down on my 87, yet they did on an 89 I had once (seemed to go down a lot smoother on that car, as well). I agree that it's pretty annoying...

As the OP says mine do the same thing on my 86, they leave about an inch left above the door. And yes it is annoying.
