OP wants to know the solution, as do I. So to fix an early cars windows that don't go all the way down, you need to switch to late regulators and late glass? (I thought I heard else where that the glass is different)

Mine is an 89 (late model) and the glass does not go all the way down. Sticks up 1/2 " similar to what the OP posted.

hm, does not seem to be the design of the mechanism then, does it. the cutoff from early to late window motors is 2/88 i believe.

im pretty certain that all years had windows that go all the way down. i have an early 86 and all 4 of mine go all the way down. sounds like a weird problem

mine is a coupe also.. not sure if that matters but again 89 i coupe windows do not roll all the way down. But both passenger and driver side stop at the same point. Which leads me to believe that it was meant to be that way.

86 coupe here. Windows go all the way down. That's the way it came to me...

I fixed it so they went up all the way. There are adjustments on the sliders, but that was more like 5 mm.

Same. I just thought it was the design. I've never seen an E30 with windows that went down all the way. *shrug*

My 91is passenger window leaves less than a 1/4" out, my drivers side goes all the way down
