Efficiency doesn't mean not fun. I know, maybe stop/start doesn't quite have the same feel to it, but...
as an environmental science student, I am just starting to realise the full extent of how screwed we are... and if people want to keep buying cars that run on fossil fuels at all, they need to be efficient.
I know, I'd like to have V8s forever too, but it's not gonna happen...

Dont get brainwashed by all your proffesors! Scientists really dont have a clue as to wether global warming is really happening and if so, what is truely cuasing it. People tend to forget that plants are more efficent at photosynthesis at higher CO2 concentration, this is esp true for C4 plants such as corn. But that arguement is best made in the off-topic section. Anyway, there is no doubt BMW is trying to take the lead when it comes to being green. However, as the owner of an e90 I can attest to the cars not being as fun or sporty as their predecesors. Faster, yes, but not nearly as fun and engaging. The fact that they are going to be producing FWD cars tells you everything one needs to know about the direction of the company, and where sportieness falls on the priority list.

Please take some classes on the laws of Physics, thermodynamics and if they have one Common sense. Environmental science aka Human Climate Change indoctrination is bunk and nothing more than a sham to redistribute wealth and power.

Oil coal and fossil fuels will be around and still in heavy use till long after we are dead. Thats just how it is.

Firstly: I can assure you that global warming IS happening, that is well known. I'm fairly sure that the people who try to convince you otherwise are related to the oil industry. Trust me, I used to be somewhat skeptical myself, but now I've seen the evidence, I am quite assured...
Anyways, I'll try not to go off-topic. My dad had an e90 330i, and I have to say, it was a fun car in a nutty way... not a real "drivers" car, but the handing was so good and predictable... I remember once losing the rear end at an intersection in the rain... I corrected for the oversteer, and as if by magic, the car was then pointing in the right direction after a stunt-driver-like sideways drift. Those engineers are something special. But again, it's not race-car.
What's this about a FWD car? I've not heard of this! Details?

I excelled in AP physics, and intro-level university physics. But, perhaps you need to take some classes in science. How on earth do you think this is a plan to re-distribute wealth? Have the oil-company conspiracy/marketing guys really got you so convinced? How am I, as a future scientist, going to make millions off of this?
I mean, really, the data shows it all. Higher CO2 in the atmosphere and oceans than any time in recorded history (>800,000 years). Real increases in temperature. Ocean acidification. Sea level rise. Species dying off faster than at any time since records began. And, it all makes sense.
Burning fossil fuels produces CO2... CO2 that wasn't in the biosphere/atmosphere/hydrosphere before... and, as you should be aware, it is a greenhouse gas, just like water vapour. Not a hard concept to grasp.
I'm not trying to insult you, nor do I like to get in arguements, but what is so hard to understand about this simple equation?

As a professional scientist, I would say listen to the engineers on the board. All engineers that I have met always have a sound understanding on efficiency and the general laws of thermodynamics. You might be one of those idiots who think it’s better to burn wood to heat their house.

I took some environmental science courses way back when, even when I only had my BSc in Chem I could tell that they were full of shit and bias as hell.

I'm all for efficiency and curbing pollution but just don’t think that scientists are not bias and looking for funding. I’m not saying there is nothing to global warming, but really be critical.

I only took some basic engineering courses, on a foundation course, before deciding that differential calculus was not my strongpoint. Therefore I only know more basic heat transfer principles, I don't know any of the really advanced stuff.
Please enlighten me as to why burning wood to heat your home is such a bad idea?
I'm sure that the scientists may have been slightly biased, but bias is human nature, even as a scientist. I'm fairly sure that climate change research has come a long way since you were introduced to it... the latest data for the past ten years continues to show a very strong trend of warming and CO2 increases. There are some very good theories behind some of the processes involved, but the Earth System is very complex and thus not entirely understood.
Oh, and btw, my main area of interest is not climate change, but actually waste management, transportation planning, food sustainability, and renewable energy. I haven't decided 100% yet the area I most want to go into...
